William is wondering why this has to happen and that only a miracle, or a good idea can save them. I can infer that William will probably create an invention that may be able to help them a little further along in the story. Him and his cousin geoffery have to work in the fields every day planting crops and getting ready for harvest: in seven months! William's family had to cut down to one meal and sell their animals for money for food. WIlliam is sad to see his favorite go, infact, its torture to him. But he knows he can't do anything about it. As well as this, Khamba is slowly fading and he is beggining to see his ribs. So, one day they tied him to a tree an wait until the next day to see if he was still alive. The next day Khamba gave up and was dead. William was really sad because he thought it was his fault. he figured that when khamba so him leave he gave everything he had and died.
