Even with only reading a short portion of this book, I have realized that the author uses a more literal tone in the beginning. I can infer though, that as I delve deeper into the story, the author will start to work in some more figurative language.

William lives in Malawi Africa. In his country only 8% of the people have electricity, and that is mostly people who live in the city. Also, they are way behind on technology from the U.S. William spends a lot of time wondering and trying to figure out why and how things work. Him and his cousin even made their own company where they fix technology.

In the story right now William is starting to become better friends with his uncle's dog khamba (now his dog). they go on adventures and hunt together. Meanwhile the new president didn't think he should be helping farmers so the price for fertilizer is so expensive no one can afford it. I think the conflict in the story is coming soon.

In the book The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, Malawi is facing a starvation. William is wondering why this has to happen and that only a miracle, or a good idea can save them. I can infer that William will probably create an invention that may be able to help them a little further along in the story. I also think that the starvation may be the conflict in the story.

Everything is getting harder for William and his cousins and everyone else. Him and his cousin geoffery have to work in the fields every day planting crops and getting ready for harvest: in seven months! William's family had to cut down to one meal and sell their animals for money for food. WIlliam is sad to see his favorite go, infact, its torture to him. But he knows he can't do anything about it. As well as this, Khamba is slowly fading and he is beggining to see his ribs. Unfortunatly i think that its just going to get harder for william

Khamba was weak and eventually william's friends told him that it wasn't fair to let him suffer. So, one day they tied him to a tree an wait until the next day to see if he was still alive. The next day Khamba gave up and was dead. William was really sad because he thought it was his fault. he figured that when khamba so him leave he gave everything he had and died. The author is very literal in this part of the passage and this leads me to believe that it was very hard for him to leave his best friend.

william gets an idea. he has always been curious about electricity and so when he sees the windmill he decides he is going to make one. i can’t imagine how much perseverance it took to keep going because so many people doubted him. he believed he could do and continued on and in the end everyone was amazed by his work. the first person point of view in this story really made an impact on the wya i feel after reading it. first person goes as deep as you can get into williams mind.
