Endless inventory can be defined as an artist’s whole collection of albums. It depicts history and the journey thetthet have encountered throughout their career. Depending on the artist it can show the control over the music they create or the lack of control that they have. For instance, Ratliff speaks on Mariah Carey’s inventory and how it shows how she went from having music control to letting the industry taking over. She became the prime example of pop/hip- hop constructions and has on a downward spiral ever since. Another example that is not mentioned in this chapter would be New Edition. This musical inventory does not necessarily depict how an artist controls their music creation but it does illustrate how artist’s voice ages as time passes. New Edition started when they were young boys barely into puberty, but then their music career flourished and they grew up. Their inventory depicts how the voice and type of music changes as an artist ages. They have always talked about girls british context in which the talked about them that changed. A musical inventory is important because it shows the journey that artist takes from the maturity their voice to the type of music they create. An endless inventory tells the story of the artist.
