The Natural illustrates how anger can be a negative aspect of our lives. Throughout the novel, Roy tries to get Memo to fall in love with him. He gets angry when she refuses to date him, causing him to ruin his relationship with Memo. Furthermore, near the end of the novel, Roy is playing the final game of the season against the Pirates. There, he is instigated by Otto to hit foul balls into the stands. This leads to him accidentally hitting Iris, who becomes hospitalized.

"He guesses she had said that to get him to slow down. Though he did not care for her technique, he controlled his anger . . . . Back at his room he felt restless. He thought he'd be better off without he but the thought only made him bitter" (Malamud 141).

"'Don't be made,' she said lifter her face to him. 'All I mean to say was that I treat all my friends the same.' . . . when he tried to edge her to the bed, she broke for air and said no. 'Why not?' he demanded. 'I'm not well,' said Memo. He was suspicious. 'What's wrong?' . . . Then he understood and was embarrassed for being so dimwitted" (Malamud 181-2).

"At the last split second he had tried to hold his swing, but he couldn't. The ball spun like a shot at Otto, struck his hard skull with a thud, and was deflected upward. It caught [Iris] the lady in the face, and to the crowd's horror, she went soundlessly down" (Malamud 245).

This relates to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where Ron, while on a quest with Harry becomes angry. He becomes mad over Harry's attention towards Hermoine. He then leaves the group temporarily. There was a major than Ron could have been killed by the wizard government who sided with Voldemort. His anger overrides his consideration of the risks of abandoning the group . Fortunately, he made it back the group unaffected. He is happy to have returned and gotten over his grudge, but his actions' results still left him lucky to be alive and well with the group.

Another example of this is in To Kill a Mockingbird, the protagonist, Scout, often finds herself in situations where she almost or does fight other kids. These people include Francis and Cecil, both children somewhat close to her age. This violence results from anger generated from those people insulting her father. Her father, Atticus, advises her not to fight, but to instead use her mind. This helps Scout rationalize more situations, allowing her to become less aggressive.

The Natural illustrates that money can control your decisions and general outlook towards life. Throughout the whole novel, Roy is constantly nagging to the judge that he deserves more money. His reason is that he wants to impress Memo and live a lavish lifestyle that Memo also desires. Towards the end of the novel, he is offered money to throw the game and lose it, and he takes up on the offer.

Many exaggerated villains, such as the villain Jafar from the movie Aladan, display an extreme version of this principle. These are usually taught to a younger demographic from companies such as Disney. Though they are extreme, sometimes there can be dark examples of greediness in the real world that could be seen as somewhat comparable to the greedy villain stereotypes from movies.

Many modern day companies can also exhibit high levels of greed. An example of this can be found in the Ivory Coast, the worlds largest supplier of raw coca beans. Though the Harkin-Engel Protocol, a large who's goal was to end child slavery in the Ivory Coast, was signed by major chocolate companies such as Hershey and Nestle, there is still overwhelming evidence it still remains. Many documentaries, such as The Darker Side of Chocolate seek to exposes the dark side of the chocolate industry. Despite all this evidence and claims of improvement, many chocolate companies still use indirect employment of child slaves. The main reason for this is because the small local farms that produce the raw coca can save a lot of money buy not paying their workers. This shows greed in the chocolate industry over inhuman price cuts.

As Memo denies Roy his romantic pursuits, he becomes more angry about the situations. After already being denied once, Roy tries to get Memo to fall in love with him again. This fails, and he angrily demands a reason, and shortly realizes his grave error. Near the end of the novel, Roy becomes infuriated at Otto, who was sitting in the stands. He ignores the game that he was playing, and tries to hit foul balls to Otto. Unfortunately, Iris, who was sitting behind him, gets hit by one of these shots and is sent to the hospital. This shocks Roy, who leaves the game to see her at the Ambulance. He didn't mean for her to get injured, but anger against Otto had caused him to act in a way he knew he shouldn't have.

Roy's greed for more than just money is present throughout the book. He seeks to gain romantic relations with the various women he knows. He tries to gain Memo's affection with money and fame. This begins soon after Bumps's death. Memo, slowly beginning to leave her room once more, catches his eye. He believes she is the one destined for him. Near the end of the novel, he asks her to marry him after a career ending health issue. While he tries to do this, he mainly thinks about the money it would take to satisfy Memo's desires, not anything about how much she actually loved him in return. While Roy is trying to gain Memo's love, he also meets Iris after she stood in the stands to see him during a game. After one night, he manages to get her pregnant, but immediately goes back to trying to, once more, gain Memo's affection.
