Medical Cannabis is a new topic in healthcare as it is legal now in several states, however, we know little on how it works for patients, is it effective, why is it effective, what do our patients think of using it as it was once something patients would hide doing to know being something we use to help patients as medication

This study reviews patients' valves on using cannabis, patients in the study were both nonusers and users of cannabis. Some reports from the study showed patients who were nonusers were concerned about the stigma around cannabis, and how it would make them feel. This is a valid concern as it is viewed that when you use cannabis you get a high feeling which can cause patients to not feel like they have control of themselves. This is also a concern for patients with everyday opioids, patients do not want to feel like they are not in control. On the other end patients who did use cannabis reported better quality of life for sleep and being able to do everyday activities as their pain was better managed.

Patient view-

I am most interested in this even if it works and we have guidelines for it, if patients wont take it then nothing else matters

Guideline- it is a newer form of medication what guidelines do we even have? Are they recommended doses, how do people refill medical cannabis, what forms does it come in, and are they any restrictions to using it? I know when a patient is listed in a chart as an addict providers shy away from prescribing opioids but what about cannabis, do they test levels for cannabis users to ensure they are using it properly, some people grow cannabis in their back yards how can we regulate the use of this?

Providers perception-

How do doctors feel about using medical cannabis for chronic pain? All doctors and NP have their preferences on what they use 1st for pain and the next steps if not effective they prescribe to patients depending on the situation, do providers think cannabis should be used in pain management?

ANA site reviews the 5 W in nursing, this applied to this topic because of the "what" as nurses we advocate for patients' rights and choices, using medical cannabis may not be what the patient wants or it could be what the patient wants to manage their chronic pain.

Guidelines are important to clinical practice as they lay out ethical and legal actions for healthcare professionals.

This viewpoint may be difficult as there is no standard across the board for standard practice for the use of medical cannabis. This form of treatment is not legal in all 50 states or worldwide. From research I have found in other countries such as Canada and Australia the studies found an increased need for more guidelines for the use of medical cannabis. I don't think this view will be a good view to look further into as there may be a lot of conflicting information and not many articles to refernce.

Provider point of view for clinical practice

This is an option as it will be up to the provider to give orders for medical cannabis. It is well known healthcare professionals are not to judge patients so I would hope that providers can leave the basis aside as the use of medical cannabis grows. This view on the topic again I feel will be similar to the guidelines. Despite the importance of the provider's view, I feel the patient's views and values are most important to understand 1st. As nurses, our responsibility is to the patients by teaching, advocating, preventing, and optimizing quality of life.

This study looked further in-depth into patients' quality of life with the use of medical cannabis. This would be a good article as the study showed data over 12 months providing a baseline then follow-ups every 3 months on the patient's perception of the benefits and cons of treatment.
