1.      Who am I? 

I am a daughter, I am a mother, I am a friend, I am also an undergraduate student whose going to school to pursue my degree in Health Education.. 

2.     Who do I pretend to be?

I pretend to be happy sometimes when in reality I might be feeling not so joyous, I also pretend to be busy because I don’t want to hang out with my family and friends. 

3.     Who do people think I am? Laughing out loud, it depends who you ask. Kidding, jokes to the side, I’d like to think that I been a pretty decent person so my peoples might say shes a friendly girl, not a shy person, 

4.     Who do I wish I could be? I wish I could be more  focused 

1.      My first experience with race took place on October 30^th, 2022 in Palos Verdes by the Palo Verdes P.D  I was parked with my person catching a view, allegedly we were parked in a no parking zone and so we were detained, questioned, handcuffed, and basically stereotyped

3.     Mostly fear, I felt vulnerable to be in a location where every police officer was Caucasian. I felt the animosity, and anger that I couldn’t comprehend. 

4.     Only with my family, because they are the only ones who I have felt comfortable with sharing. This is my first time addressing it with my fellow peers. 

5.     It has made me more aware of my surroundongs, I try to be cautious because Ive seen first hand that racism is very real. Theres certain cities like Palos Verdes that I will never go to again. It gives me anxiety just thinking about going there.

What connections can be made between having a positive sense of self and our experiences with identity and race

Although I understand the question its hard for me to put into words. Please bear with me as I try to convey my message. I do think one can still be positive and yes I think African Americans definitely have a stronger sense of ethinc identity, I think because of the long history 

 

 

        I absolutely think the spirit of Ubuntu is still alive and will continue to be alive for generations to come. Dr. Mandela mentioned in his video that one aspect of the Ubuntu is that they were very hospitable when travelers would come to the villages, the Ubuntu people were kind enough to feed the travelers they would also entertain the travelers. This kind of characteristics is truly noble and I think we still it today when we visit our families and friends, I know that when I visit my aunts and uncles they go out of their way to cater to us and make us feel welcomed in their home. Respect for our elders is also something that is very important, something that is vital to pass to our future generations. 

2. Compare and contrast in detail and provide examples of any parallels/similarities that you have been able to identify between African cultures and African American culture. Has this concept of Ubuntu changed your worldview at all? Explain.
I can identify with the Ubuntu when it comes to the hospitality traditions. I tend to be very hospitable to all my guest, even to people that I see might be in need. I aspire change for my community and try to do what I can to address homelessness issues. I feel as though it is imperative that we all do our part to help. I feel truly humbled that Dr. Nelson Mandela and I both agree that helping others is much more important than us wanting to enrich ourselves.
