         <title>Colony Collapse Disorder</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is a tern used to describe the mass disappearance of worker honey bees from the hive. The result is a breakdown of the colony and insufficient workers are present to maintain the colony. The first case was reported in 2006 when beekeepers reported colony losses. Typically, the bees were found to disappear almost all at the same time, with the queen bee left in the hive with food storage and very few worker bees tending to her. There were small amounts of dead bees found inside and/or outside of the hive. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Acarapis woodi is a microscopic mite that lays egg in trachea, a bees breathing tube,  which weakens the bees. They spend their whole lives in the bees body.<br>-Varroa destructor is a devastating mite for the bees. The mite can only reproduce in honeybee hives. When the female enters the honeybee root cell she lays her eggs on the larvae that are not yet covered in protection by the beeswax. Once it is covered, the eggs hatch and the female along with the newly hatched mites, feed on the bees bodily fluids. At this point, it can only weaken a bee, not kill it. Once the bee breaks out of its barrier it spreads the mites to the other larvae, thus starting the process all over. Not only can it weaken adults as well, the mite transfers diseases to the honeybees as well. All this destruction done by the varroa destructor could potentially kill off an entire bee colony. <br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>neonicotinoids is an insecticide that was legalized in the 1990's. Increased levels of pesticides that are used on crops that bees regularly pollinate,  such as apples, cherries, oranges, berries, nuts and many other plants cause the product to be brought back to the colony, eventually leading to the death  of the colony. the pesticide kills off bacteria and helps the growth of the plants, but it negatively affects the honeybees.  Although there are many factors to the death of honey bees, such as mites and natural destruction, pesticides are a big factor in the recently increased deaths of honeybees. Some pesticides that affect the bee population are neonicontinoids, caumaphos(affect the bee brain).  The caumaphos is an insecticide that  is used to get rid of the varroa destructor that affects the bee population as well.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Effect on biodiversity and ecosystem</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Bees pollinate 70 out of the top 100  human crops, which supplies approximately 90% of the human population. If the honey bee dies out, those plants wont be pollinated as much or wont be pollinated at all, thus causing a major decline of food that the general population eats. Nutritious food essential to our diet will be taken out of the food web. The death of honeybees will affect one third of the food humans eat. Many plants rely on the pollination of honeybees, thus if the honeybees die out, the plants will have a hard time surviving resulting in an eventual death.  Bees support  and balance out a large number of life forms on earth and if they are killed off, we might experience a downfall in crops as well as a decrease in crop production due to lack of pollination from the bees. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Scientific evidence and explanation </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As of 2007-2008 there were approximately 19% of the US's bee hives that were surveyed. Results showed that a total of 38.5% of beehives were lost, which increased since the year before by 11.4%.  This shows that The amount of bees that are dying increased by a lot. Reports of some loss of the colony appeared as well with 37% up to 40% loss compared to the 17% in previous years. Bees are dying today at an alarming rate of  44% from April 2015-2016.  This evidence shows that humans (and other factors) have a great impact on these insects. If something isn't done to protect the bees, other life forms might crumble.This shows the increase of deaths and losses of bee hives in the US. in 2008 there were  2.44 million producing colonies which went down from 1947 which had 5.9 million producing colonies. This is even further evidence that honeybees are affected and should be treated with care as soon as possible to ensure future stability for the ecosystems. The below graph shows the decrease of the U.S. honeybee colonies. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The solution for this problem would be to decrease the amount of pesticides used on crops and in beehives. Studies have shown and stated that it would be better for companies/farms to stop using pesticides. Not only can it benefit the quality of the product, but it can also ensure the increase of honeybee survival. With out us acting upon this, humanity might suffer greatly by our own doing. Another solution could be to completely eliminate the pesticides, or only use in dire situations. </div>]]></description>
