I agree to get rid of the logs because students have lives outside of school and reality some don’t get home until 7 8 at night. Parents get home from work tired. They have to make dinner and take care of multiple kids the last thing they want to worry about is reading log and asking did you read. The kids will lie and say yes. This also goes for homework, hence why I got rid of it years ago. It’s more work for me and the kids who are busy outside of school. Instead utilize the time you do have while they are in front of you.

The kids that we serve come from very diverse backgrounds with different priorities and if we don’t have the resources such as a classroom library or school librarian to expose them to reading then who will. When I think about exposing one kid to a lifelong of reading, we have no idea as educators how that has the potential to change the legacy of reading through education. It’s priceless and why we do what we do everyday.
