Cesar Chavez was born on March 31, 1927, in Yuma, Arizona. He was born into a family of farmers. Shortly after he was born his family lost their farm, and had to move to California. There they became migrant workers. They were treated very poorly with little pay, but still had enough love to have a happy family.

In July 1970, the California grape strike ended in success. Through the efforts of Cesar and others they had bargained to get the farm owners to raise the pay and give them the right to unionize. Cesar also fought throughout the rest of the 1970s to help bring better working conditions for the migrant workers. Once again his efforts didn't go unnoticed and they had another major win through the form of boycott. They were now able to get labor contracts.

In 1972, Cesar Chavez led yet another boycott or strike. Arizona had banned workers from the right to protest or unionize and negotiate better wages. Through him and the UFW's efforts California passed the Landmark Agricultural Labor Relations Act. This act made it possible for farm workers to negotiate and unionize for better wages and working conditions.

In February of 1968 Cesar Chavez held his very first water-only fast. This fast lasted 25 days and drew many people's attention. During the grape strike, the main boycott was refusing to buy table grapes. This led to peaceful marches and protests. The protests, though, could often turn violent. Strikers often ended up hurt, abused, or threatened by growers and police. Through these peaceful and influential boycotts, Cesar was able to gather enough support to really make a change for the grape workers.

My research question was to find out what Cesar Chavez did for grape workers. Not only did Cesar make it able for workers to have better working conditions, but he also equaled the playing field for them to have a good life as well. Through his numerous boycotts and strikes Cesar made an impact on the future of America. Some accomplishments he had include establishing minimum wage standards, wage contracts, safer working conditions, child labor reform, and other advancements in civil rights for farm workers. One of Cesar Chavez's biggest partners in the grape strikes and movements was Dolores Huerta. Together they built the NFWA and launched the first grape strike movement.

In March of 1989 Cesar Chavez gave one of his greatest speeches. In his address, Cesar talks about the importance of keeping grape farmers healthy and safe from harmful working environments. He talks about how all of the fighting they have already done won't matter if people keep getting sick from the pesticides. He uses real quotes and stories to give his speech a more influential and personal effect. He talks about the living conditions and abuse farm workers already have to go through while working on the farms. In his speech he also talks about how much pesticides are used on farms. He mentions the harmful side effects of consuming and breathing in the air of them as well. He also mentions that beyond how harmful they are, they aren't working either. He ends his speech by saying thank you and to once again boycott grapes.

In the year of 1993, Cesar Chavez led another march. He wanted to emphasize on the use of pesticides and the working conditions of the farm workers. He then leads another fast. Shortly after the fast ends, Cesar passes away in his sleep. Even though he wasn't able to continue to make improvements, he left an amazing legacy and many advancements for farm workers and the future.
