Here I am stating the point of my performance from the pursued debate on the last few days. By my performance, I assume that I did quite well on stating my point and I also believe that I was able to improvise the idea from the motion quite better than what I expected to be. I also realize I was able to highlight the opps flaws better than the other which ends with me not having a time to build an idea, but able to straight up attacking the other flaws like what?
However, I also knew my weaknesses in the point of research. The moment that I did the research either before or pre-debate period, I acknowledged my lack of interest towards researching the materials needed to support the argument. Since I rather derivate or translate the motion deeper and deeper to build my own ideas in the game currently. However, since I believe that the debate research was mandatory to have a supporting person in your back.

Following that, to build a strong argument, you need data, which I assume to be better than any kind of resource such as “statement” on articles or whatever likewise. The numerical factors which we are able to trust better seems like becoming one of the biggest determinants of whether you're gonna win the audience with persuasive numbers or not at all.

we just the done the debate selection today. the team for the debate consists of 3 - 4 students, and the winner of the selection will represent the class for school level debate. After this debate, I tried to reflect on myself. In my opinion. my strongest contribution to my team during the team is my rebuttal. I know that it is not that strong but at least I tried. I also searched for a few journal as sources.

My points when we have a discussion in our team are also useful in my opinion. I realized that I still lack of debating skills, which I need to improve. One of which is persuasive skills and speaking skills. During the rebuttal, I can feel that the way I speak is not persuasive enough, but rather unconfident. I would need to improve these skills specifically.

But at least through this debate, I learned a bit on how to build an argument, even if it's not that strong. First, I search journals to be my sources. the journals would have to be related to the motion. After that, I read through all the sources, and take notes of some important points. Then, I made an argument and think of what would the opposing team argues, based on my sources. In my opinion, the key of building a strong argument is to predict what would the opposing team argues, use data, and try to shift their persepective on the motion.

My strongest contribution takes place when I'm taking notes while others are speaking, either the opposite side or our own side. I also contribute by writing a summary and a little point consisting of our opinion resistance from the opposing side's argument. During this debate, I realized that I need to improve my listening skills and summarize the whole debate materials. Because I'm still struggling with listening to others' arguments, and because of that, I am always confused about how to create a conclusion, since conclusion requires a summarization of the whole topic and restate the main idea.

To make a strong argument, we need a strong example that supports our idea, find the opposite side's weaknesses and then link it to our resistance argument. However, ensuring the stable flow of our argument (not planga plongo either ngelantur) can reduce the weaknesses gap of the argument.

Along the debate although I didn’t contribute much, I have some highlights. Which I take part in a rebuttal and a closing statement. According to my intuitive and believe, I felt that I significantly contributed to my team closing statement, where I conclude it all to support the motion, despite it was being delivered with me mostly reading my scratch paper.

In this unit, I learned how to be patient and how to convey arguments properly. However, there are skills and traits that still need to be improved, such as how to not stutter during my turn for speaking and how to not rely on my scratch paper over the course of the debate. Patience comes as our group is unprepared for the debate while evaluation from the adjudicators contribute much to how I reflects to my public speaking. As for the things that needs to be improved, hopefully, I will right my wrongs in the future.

I realized building a strong argument is not only about finding a person’s mistakes. Whereas, building a strong argument takes efforts, hence we need to synchronize what are we trying to convey with the opposition. We shall, recognize both perspective and identify what’s good and aren’t to achieve an argument that is acceptable.

Wednesday, 14 January 2026. My team had a debate, I did the opening part in the debate. And that's the most contribution from myself to my team, it was fun because I prepared the like template script for the opening, found some sources for the debate, and etc. However, I think I still need to learn to do critical thinking, because when I was infront to do the opening, I was like reading my text I prepared a lot because I couldn't think of any argument, it might because of my nervousness because I dont talk infront of people a lot. Furthermore, I then searched how to make a strong argument and also observe how my friends debate. I found that I need to gather evidence, reason, some examples. then, put it together into good structure which make it easier to be understand by them. And also to organize my ideas, and critical thinking...

In our debate, I contributed primarily to research, searching most of the references before the debate day that supported our arguments although the topic we got was not the one I had anticipated the most. Throughout this debate, I realized that teamwork and team chemistry are crucial and well-aligned arguments could create a stronger presentation against the opponent. I also recognized areas where I need improvement. My speaking skills require further development to deliver arguments confidently.I also need to expand my arguments by connecting them more effectively with those of my teammates, ensuring a strong, unified. Strengthening reasoning skills is another skill I need to improve, particularly in responding to and refuting the opponent’s points. Building a strong argument demands critical thinking, considering multiple perspectives, logical reasoning, and arguments with structured data. This debate has shown the importance of teamwork, speaking skills, and preparation skills while also emphasizing us to improve our critical and cognitive skills.

Reflection

My strongest contribution during the debate competition is when I'm a second speaker and try to rebuttal against the statement. I gave a strong journal about grammatical error behavior that might bring permanent error. Then, I tried to speak confidently in an effort to make my opinion more acceptable. Then, the skill that i need to improve is research skill, mostly i used ai (tbh) for helping me when argument building. So, the research skill is most important and that is the requirement for debating events. Moreover, I had been a moderator that improved my soft skills and being a moderator but it still needed to be upgraded. Lastly, the strongest argument is not only a logical but also real world example and journal evidence. In every opinion, they need to be supporting evidence to prevent bias and make the argument weak. So the strongest argument appears with a collecting example and journal. The speaking skill (clear and confident) also requires to ensure that your opinion can attract the audience and adjudicator.

(note : please, I got traumatized after brought a personality)

However, suddenly our homeroom teacher announce that we will have debate and the winner will be go against KHJ(?)
We have strategy that we divide the motion that we will debate and each of us will choose one motion to research about it. The strongest contribution that I can do is became the first speaker, which open the debate, deliver the point that we will debate. Actually through out the debate, I always reading the opening that I already prepared which is not good, fortunately, I’m start to stop reading the prepared text and just flow within the moment, I will keep this next time, really ✌🏻.
Our team has the same lineup, me as the opening, Hani rebuttal 1, Zaza rebuttal 2 and Nabilah as the conclusion. We didn’t change it because we think we are best in that position (maybe) From this moment I realize that I need to change, I need to try in the new position, I need to improve my skill in rebuttal which Ill try if there’s another debate.
I just started debate in here, SHS (senior high school) which I never learn how to build the strong argument, but in here some or few of the teacher gave the tuts how build strong argument which I think its not enough, I need to learn by myself (on process). I learned that building strong argument is not just make points and convincing my opponent about the point but I need to make it more accurate by reading research or article.

Team work is one of the most important keypoint that we need to emphasize in a debate since it highlights the way a team can connect its ideas and deliver them in a short time. In this debate, our group divided the task between members consistently throughout the debate selection. I contributed as the last speaker, stating the conclusion. I think my strongest contribution was giving the ideas for the rebuttals even though I got the last speaker part and also taking notes of what the opponent says. I actually wanted to rebute, but I am aware that I still need to improve my articulation in speaking, especially with such a short time to prepare. In terms of debating skills, I still lack in my articulation, because even though I can write long essays, and state a bunch of points in English, when I am speaking, I still cannot structure the point in my head. As to building a strong argument, I learned that I would have to research. A lot. To build a strong point, we have to search for data. I learned that in a debate, one of the most unshakable points that the opponent cannot rebute is using data.

In our group, we actually divide our role before hand. We had 5 motions and one of it already came with sources beforehand. We have 4 members so each one of us search for sources of one motions, sort through the key point we might use in the debate and shared it with one another. Me personally looked for motion number 4, it didn’t came out. While my role in the group in the debate session was as the third speaker, mostly to rebut the opponents statement but also emphasize and backed up our points (especially the second speaker). Throughout this debate, I realize I still have things to work on. One stand out the most is my ability to deliver my ideas, speaking skill moreover in term of being persuasive because that’s what debating is about. I still stutter a lot, I had it written perfectly in my head but for some reason it didn’t come out that way. I think maybe because I rarely talk in general so not only in debating, I really need to improve my communication in general especially in English. Back to the debate, I realize that building a strong argument involves a clear claim, strong evidence, logical structure, and ability to address counterarguments. It’s not only about collecting data as much as possible, but also on how to deliver it in the most accurate way possible so it can help back up our statement and also sound persuasive for the audience.

But, even though I had written the opponents points, it was still hard for me to elaborate the ideas for my teammate because some points were written incompletely. As the debate was past, I believe there were still a lot of debating skills that I needed to improve. Since I do not have enough confidence to speak in front of people, can not elaborate my own ideas, and it is still hard to understand my opponents points, so I have to get used to those problems and try to make a good improvement. Maybe, it is because I do not have any interest in debating things. About building a strong argument, for me, a strong argument could be built by giving relevant evidence.

The debate was conducted against other 4 teams with 5 debate motions which being debated including “English as a compulsory subject”, “AI for cognitive development”, “Standardizing English”, “Fluency or accuracy”, and last but not least is “Teaching English as earlier as possible”. In this debate I contributed well for building an argument of English as a compulsory subject in non-english speaking countries by collecting data from several academic resources. Actually, I learned a lot from this debate including of building a strong debate argument, taking notes while the opposite team is delivering their argument, and how to deliver my thoughts or arguments because I believed that debate requires a courage to speak in front of others (students, judges, or the opposite team) . This debate also brainstormed my ideas of something to be a critical thinking and communicator. To be honest, I was struggling to deliver my thoughts clearly in English without rely on my notes. For me, a strong debate argument is determined by which sources are used. An academic research, journal, government news, or credible article could be used to form a strong debate argument.

From the last debate i realize my strongest contribution during the debate is when discussion i am doing active to give my opinion or my idea, so our team can make a better conclusion and also better rebottle, in addition I am good at the opening statement, I was already arrange plan what do i want to say when the debate, but unfortunately I was panic and I cannot arrange my words, the going to out of topic.

Then which skills that I need to improve when debate is such as fluency, confidence, and listening or receiving information. I realize that fluency in the debate is really important because in a real debate it is known that sometimes it doesn't go as we want, and we must be able to handle the challenge that comes to us. Then listening skill is important to rebuttal because we need the information from the opposite team.

And in my opinion, to make a strong argument we need to provide the resource that we find before start the debate, and we need to speak clearly to get the attention from the opposite team also.
