Throughout the Animal Kingdom, male animals have evolved distinct visual characteristics. Whether it be the Mane of a male Lion, or the Beautiful Feathers of a male Peacock, the fact that only the males of the species acquired these traits has a reason. The task of sexual reproduction for males is spreading their gene pool, while females of any species must be more picky with who they choose to use one of their limited eggs on. This creates a male dominated sexual hierarchy and at the root of it is Darwin's the theory of evolution.

In a primal setting, a male looks for a fertile female. If the male has any reason to believe the female is infertile, he will lose interest. This puts an enormous weight on the female's shoulders to exhibit certain traits that come with fertility. This is the evolutionary reason why most men are attracted to the same thing.

In a primal setting, a female looks for a male that is going to be able to help protect and provide for a family. If the male exhibits rudeness and untrustworthy tendencies, the female may lose interest. In the long run, nice guys do finish first. While males do experience pressures to be strong bodied, the main pressure is for the male to be a good, trustworthy provider, and a good parent.

According to a Study conducted by The National Eating Disorders Association, the more time a man spends looking at fitness magazines, the less confident he becomes about his own body. With the constant bombardment of commercial featuring models with unrealistic body types, it is no wonder why this generation of teens harbors the most kids affected by eating disorders than any other generation. It is important to realize that it is a Model's job to look pretty, and you being an average human should not be held to the same standards as they are.

The History of Attractiveness is actually quite interesting. Up until the industrial revolution, many desired to be overweight. This is due to the fact that if you had access to more food than the average person (at that time the average person was a peasant) than you were perceived to be rich. This changed in the early 1900s, however, when food became more accessible.
