When I was young my parents would read to me regularly. I had Dr. Seuss's books, books with many short stories, and princess books. Although one memory I have of actually picking up a book and wanting to read it was when I was in preschool. I came across the book Corduroy in my class library, I was instantly attracted by the cover and I knew I had to look inside. I yet had not learned to read but I do remember that we were provided with audios of the book.

Some of my favorite books that I was able to read were Green eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess, Goodnight Moon by Margaret W. Brown, and The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.

Being in college I took a course on African American literature and I book that I really enjoyed reading was Kindred by Octavia E. Butler. This book was more than an assigned reading for me. The story talked about a girl who time traveled to the past (the 1800s she was from the 70s) and ended up in a slave state where she became a slave. I was at the edge of my seat while reading this book, I always looked forward to reading it.

A time in my life when I read the most was probably when I was in middle school starting with 6th grade. Some books I enjoyed reading were the Dear Dumb Diaries series and Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I felt connected to the characters in these books and they were very entertaining for me as well.

When I was in 8th grade my teacher would pick students randomly each day to read parts of the chapter to the class. After reading our part we had to stand and present to the class a summary of what we had just read. I remember coming into class every day nervous that I would get chosen to read. I was pretty shy and I didn't want to mess up in front of everyone. From that point I gained anxiety when presenting becuse I felt that I would conpletly forget what I had just read.

I don't really read too much for pleasure but when I do find a book that catches my attention I will read up to an hour at most. I recently read the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. This book was motivational and I felt like I gained valuable information that I can apply in my life. The four agreements are: be impeccable with your word, don't take anything personally, don't make assumptions, and always do your best.

I select the books I read through recommendations either if that is coming from social media, influencers, or my friends. When I personally choose a book I will first see what book cover attracts me and then read the summary to see if it is a story I can get into. I have also noticed that I tend to stay away from books that have too many pages.

I would say that I am not much of a reader that reads for pleausre. Yes, I am physically reading mostly every day in differrent forms but I barley read chapter books on a day to day basis. My schedule is pretty busy with school and work so I don't instantly think of reading a book as a form of relaxing. Even when I have breaks I rather be active and go to different places see and spend time with people or just rest at home.
