The dog that depressed everyone

“Hachi, a dog’s story” it is a 2009 dramatic film directed by Lasse Hallstrom and with the participation of Richar Gere, Joan Allen, Sarah Roemer, among others. It is based on a true story that occurred in Tokyo, which came to attract so much attention that a bronze statue was erected in honor of such an act of loyalty.

The film is about the story of Hachiko, a puppy of Japanese origin and Akita breed, who was picked up at the train station by a university professor, Wilson Parker, after finding him abandoned in the middle of the night. It is then when he decides to take care of it and go discovering the intimate bonds that can unite a person and an animal, which will last beyond imagination despite the tragedy that is about to occur.

The story takes place mainly in the train station, the place of the first contact between our 2 protagonists, the university professor Wilson Parker, a man with a wife and daughter, noted for being friendly, simple and helpful, and Hachiko, a dog who stands out for their loyalty and affection towards their owner, where both will perform their daily routine of walking to the station and then waiting for their owner's return from work, becoming known to other passers-by and workers, with whom Hachiko will interact.

One of my favorite movies, a moving story that reflects the true meaning of friendship and loyalty that can exist between a man and a dog. The film knows how to show you this beautiful relationship with several moments, reinforcing it more and more as the film progresses, filling you with a feeling of happiness and calm, to then get out of this state of mind and get to shake your heart with heartbreaking moments full of sadness, letting you escape the occasional tear. Even more so if you have experienced this type of bond with a pet and it is no longer with you. The director's work was totally successful, the soundtrack according to the various situations, shots that make us delve into the role of the protagonists and be them to empathize with the situation.

The film within its genre is wonderful, it achieves its purpose of managing the feelings of the audience and overflowing the emotions that are repressed by them throughout the film. If you are an animal lover, totally recommended.

9/10

Paolo Garcia

A fun way to do "The Proposal".

[Alert of possible spoilers]

This film, released in 2009, is a romantic comedy, this film directed by Anne Fletcher, and starring Ryan Reynolds (Andrew Paxton) and Sandra Bullock (Margaret Tate), and other supporting characters and extras. This film won 4 awards, Teen Choice Award for Best Romantic Comedy Actress (Sandra Bullock), People's Choice Award for Favorite Comedy Film, and others.

This film begins with an influencer editor, Margaret Tate, who is deported from the United States because she did not fulfill certain responsibilities regarding her VISA, for this she "obliges", or rather makes a deal with the assistance of her, Andrew Paxton. He accepts her proposal, but with certain conditions, if he marries her, he must publish her manuscript, and promote it to an editor, since it is her dream. While this aforementioned plot is developing, the man who does the VISA and deportation papers if there is a fraud, gives them the opportunity to mention if their alleged marriage is a lie, to which both protagonists continue with their lie despite the warnings about fraud, jail, and immediate deportation.

The film takes place in New York at the beginning and end, while during they are in Sitka, Alaska. This last mentioned place is where Andrew's family lives, in Sitka the protagonists live moments and the many conversations that make them realize what they are really doing, because of this, Margaret decides not to do it because she is already in love with Andrew and vice versa, however, like all cliche and romantic movies they end happily together.

It is true that it is a cliche, however, it is one of my favorite romantic films, because both the plot and the actors (who, to tell the truth, I find that they are very good and they manage to play their role in the film super well, because they have lots of chemistry), it grabs you. Well, there are many moments of unavoidable laughs, the typical moments of romantic atmosphere and their ending well finished.

I fully recommend this movie, if you like comedy I'm sure you will like it or that it will make you smile and also if you like the romantic, they have their moments that make you sigh. This film is suitable for almost all audiences, as it does not contain scenes that should be censored, but it may not be very well understood by children under 14, in my opinion.

9/10

Catalina Díaz.

Klaus: A new way of seeing Christmas

Klaus is an animated Christmas film directed by Sergio Pablos, borned in Spain and owner of the company “Sergio Pablos Animation Studios”. This movie was distributed by Netflix’s platforms and was nominated for an Oscar in 2019, losing to “Toy Story 4”. Some of the actors who bring the animated characters to life are J. K Simmons (Klaus), Jason Schwarzman (Jesper), Joan Cusach (Mrs. Tammy), and Rashida Jons (Alva).

The Film tells a new version of Christmas’s origin. This story takes place in a town that is divided by two large groups of families, who live in constant rivalry. As the main character is Jesper, who is a spoiled and capricious postman that receives an impossible assignment as punishment. This one was ordered by his father, due to his attitude. On the other hand, there is Klaus, a woodcutter who lives in the mountains and isolates himself after the death of his wife, showing a strong character. These two characters will come together and change the course of their own lives and the town. This also affects the secondary character of Alva, a teacher who also wants to get out of town but who in the process falls in love again with her profession, with the town, and with the children who live there.

In my opinion it is a fresh and touching film, with endearing characters that grow little by little over the course of the story, this happens with both the main characters and the secondary characters. It has completely funny moments and others full of sadness, achieving a balance that manages to leave the viewer satisfied. It is a film that despite not being at the level of Disney and Pixar’s animation, manages to excel with a simple 2D animation, as it achieves perfect and beautiful pictures. I absolutely recommend to watch this movie, alone, as a family, even among adults, as it a story that will stir and catch the viewer regardless of their age.

10/10

Kimberly Seida Arévalo
