This was also the point in Japanese history where the arts began to flourish, including plays, artwork, and literature. Finally, the Japanese created Haiku, a poem consisting of 5 Syllables, 7 Syllables, and 5 Syllables.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Christians were first welcomed in Japan, as they became associated with trading with the Spanish, Portuguese, and English. However, the Shogun feared a religious uprising in Japan after Christian missionaries obtained power in many parts of the country. The shogun and emperor then banned Christianity from Japan, to make sure that the SHogun could retain his power. However, a religious uprising occurred, which resulted in the mass persecution of Christians across Japan.</div>]]></description>

The only open port for trade was Nagasaki, a city that would be obliterated by the United State's atom bomb at the end of WWII. Nagasaki was only open to the Dutch and Chinese.</div>]]></description>

Japan had a lot of porcelain, gold, and silver. The Europeans needed silver to trade with other countries like China, so having lots of silver was important for European trade.</div>]]></description>
