Procrastination stands for the leader's tendency to delay making important decisions while executing the less important ones. From an organizational point of view, procrastinating leaders will negatively influence all levels of the organization and install status-quo thinking among everyone involved. Procrastination is irrational in nature as it does not help in facilitating leadership to take place. In fact, leaders who delay decisions or put off actions that need to be taken are generally less successful.

Illustration Inscription Set Procrastination. (2019, June 07). Without clear priorities, you’ll end up spending significant time and energy on unimportant tasks. Leaders by nature want to do things for themselves, but learning to delegate when necessary is important.

Attending to the new task increases the risk of an error with one or both of the tasks because the stress of the distraction or interruption causes cognitive fatigue, which leads to omissions, mental slips or lapses, and mistakes. Sometimes this happens because we care, but often it happens because people feel a need to control situations and outcomes. Perhaps it stems from an insecure need to have one’s voice heard above all others or perhaps that is a learned behavior from observing other leaders in action. Whatever an individual’s rational is for interrupting it is not acceptable behavior and more importantly, if you’re in a leadership role it can have a devastating impact on your people.

Schulte, B.

Social media allows for much more personal communications between leaders and their followers. This two-way dialogue creates the opportunity for followers to influence decisions and outcomes, which means there has been a shift in the power dynamics. Social media is making it easier to reach out to and engage team members in a more dynamic and timely way. It broadens the reach and amplifies the message. It is an alternative way for leaders to engage directly with their teams, and extends traditional lines of communication between senior leadership and employees.

Ginny Marvin | Nov 30, 2., Ginny Marvin | Nov 23, 2., Ginny Marvin | Nov 16, 2., Ginny Marvin | Nov 6, 2., Rodric Bradford | Nov 3, 2., Ginny Marvin | Nov 2, 2., . . .

Gossip damages workplaces by lessening employee productivity because it takes time away from their work. It also can lower staff morale and diminish trust in other employees while creating divisiveness. Gossip can hurt workplace reputations and prompt good employees to leave. This sort of gossip undermines the messages that leaders present to their teams. It can also decrease engagement as people who have heard the gossip may put less effort into their work if they feel that something negative is about to happen in the organization.

Jenny Cole Senior Lecturer in Social Psychology.

My favorite procrastination quote is "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" written by Lao Tzu. In this quote, Lao Tzu is trying to express that great things start from humble beginnings. In the original, the text refers to "1,000 li journey". A li is an old Chinese measure of distance which converts to 360 miles or 576 km. This quote is my favorite because a person must begin his or her journey to reach their goal or destination. It is a motivational proverb that expresses deep insight about determination and avoiding procrastination. This saying teaches that even the longest and most difficult ventures have a starting point; something which begins with one first step.

(79), C., (68), K., (75), D., (68), I., (53), D., (56), F., . . .

Time waster is a pretty wide term. In the last couple of weeks I found that the best thing you can do with time management is to create specific tasks and deadlines to work them out. If you want to decrease your time spent on social media, begin by taking all social media apps off your phone. Limit yourself to a small number of social media platforms you want to be active on. Give yourself a time limit each day to spend on social media. Set your timer on your phone when you get on and when the timer goes off, be disciplined and get off.

Lake, C.
