The students of this age bracket have different issues and problems so as a teacher first of all I had to overcome the challenge of bonding , teaching and educating 6 year old children.
When I joined Grade 1 , it took me sometime to observe two students who were having issues and trouble with their behaviour which was not only effecting others but it was creating difference in the whole class scenrios.
I had to reflect on myself first of all , so I started connecting with those students on a personal level. Emotional and physical bonding was the foremost requirement to deal with them. I started with informal cirlce time with them , i would greet them with a wide smile every morning making them realize they are special and always needed in my class. At times I would sit and have lunch with them during which i would tell them how to practice good values.
Gradually after witnessing some changes in them I realized the challenge I am in. I had to put a stop to their bullying and hitting others. For that at times I had to be firm but fair , I had to punish them , but reward them too. I had to counsel them but listen to them also. I had to be personal with them.I had to teach them kindness by showing it around the class with other students. This challenge was a time taking task but gradually I could see the change and positive output of the students.
After this I saw the students changing which made me realize the concept that I have used has actually worked and made my class and the students better and positive.
Consistency , being fair and proactive helped me to gather the glitches I was facing with these students.
