When researching this topic and related laws and statutes, I gained a better understanding of how these legal obligations interset with building trust, particularly school counselor and student relationships. I have become more aware of how confidentiality laws impact the daily practice of school counseling and the importance of keeping student safety the top priority. I am also now more aware of the resources I have available to me to ensure I am meeting guidelines and requirements of maintaining confidentiality as a school counselor, and when it is necessary to breach it in order to protect my students and staff.
