many prisoners find it hard get support from their families, get a job or find financial security. Therefore they are likely to mix with the wrong crowds or get themselves into legal trouble again and therefore return to prison. For example, if they are unable to obtain employment, they may turn to theft or drug dealing to make money.

There are high rates of recidivism in Victoria and other parts of Australia. Many people reoffend because they are not getting adequate support. Many are homeless, or going back to areas where they have little resources and are around members of their life who influence them. We should have more programs and resources for these individuals to help them get back on their feet. This should start in prison with programs to teach them life skills.

If getting rid of prisons entirely is not an option then implementing better programs in order to actually help rehabilitate people would be helpful. Also the culture within prisons should be improved so that people are not just being further introduced to crime culture.

Prisons often reoffend due to inadequate resources within prisons and upon their release. Inside prisons people have shelter and access to food, however, once they are out of prison it is extremely hard to find housing and work with a criminal record. Leading to some people turning to crime again, to support themselves

Prisons need to get greater support from government bodies and have a third-party that ensures prison funds are being directed to the right places in the prison. Most of the time there is a lack of resources needed to support prisoners which leads to them not being rehabilitated and contributes to reoffending. Therefore better programs needed to be reinstated which helps to support prisoners when they reintegrate into society.
