The arts community in Australia is also lacking diversity, only 8% are from a non-english speaking background. It is therefore important to embracing more cultural diversity.
Figure 1.3:

The community arts project our group chose came together quickly after the realisation that the community could benefit greatly from a cultural display of art, performing art and music. We understand the importance of supporting local artists from all cultures in each of these fields and have an emphasis on their involvement, to elevate the communities understanding of a number of alternative exhibitions. By using our different disciplines we want to share our love and understanding of the diverse range of local cultures.
To engage the public in this area we are holding a Cultural arts and Music Festival, the West Australian Festival of Art and Music", which will be held during summer, outside in a large entertainment area, such as Claremont showgrounds. The details of the festival are as follows:

The festival will be easily accessible and affordable for all ages.

There will be no alcohol and the event will be smoke free.

There will be local indigenous, and non-indigenous music artists, as well as affordable sales of their own, and other music.

There will be local art workshops as well as sales of local art.

There will be performing art, and performance workshops.

There will largely be local food and drink, including produce as well as the prepared food.

Ultimately the festival will raise money for an increase in the quality of local schools art theatre and music programs focusing on facilities, equipment and teaching.

The festival ground will be broken into general sections. I’ll be managing a section that will be solely dedicated to creating and promoting artworks (e.g. paintings, urban art, etc.). This ‘arty corner’ will be promoting local talent and multiculturalism- it'll be made up of 2 main components: selling/exhibiting local artworks, and workshops where attendees can create art. My main aim is to encourage local artists and invite people to be creative and have some playful fun with paint. The workshops will be all-inclusive and not difficult with fun interactive features.

ARTIST TENTS: Promoting Local Visual Artists

To keep prices low and accessible, the artworks for sale will be mainly prints on canvas (rather than originals). These artworks will include styles like; spray paint, Indigenous Aus art, tattoo designs, graffiti, colourful and abstract- as well as photography works. I believe that this will be more appropriate to the vibe of the festival. There'll be no more than 4 artist tents, and to get a placement in the festival, they’d have to enter a competition that I’d host online (this will also work as publicity for the event). The artists will be also be doing live artworks, for purchase, upon request at their stalls (e.g. caricatures, colourful designs, etc.). This is an amazing opportunity to promote Perth artists and give them intense exposure.

It promotes creativity, multiculturalism and all funds raised will go back into schools to fund art programs.

My role in this project is casting of prodigy local performers not only on school, but also university and professional levels. I would need to work with the advertising and promotion board (Matt and Jacob) to ensure that all of the performers meet the majority of the following criteria:

- They are local (in our case, located in Perth, performing borders will be outlined with evaluation of risk and cost of travel for performers from specific districts depending on availability of transportation)*

- They perform in a discipline that is considered performing art (e.g. dancing, acting, musical performances group or solo, acrobatics, illusionism, poetry, etc)
or
- They showcase a collection of works related to a craft-heavy creative industry (fashion catwalks, cosplay, robotics, others to be confirmed in audition process)

-The performances or showcases will generally not exceed 5 minutes, unless approved by the casting board. *

- Performances have to be age-appropriate, as one of the main groups of target audience is children under 10 years old to inspire them to pursue arts as either a recreational activity or a potentially professional industry in the future. *

- Performances have to be stage-ready. Them being 'stage-ready' and the ability of the performers to develop their pieces further prior to the commencement of the festival would be determined by the casting board. *

- Performances with minimal set and prop requirements will be prioritised, as a grotesque set may be time-consuming and dangerous to move, which will obstruct the flow of the festival and potentially endanger the audience and/or other performers. The less we have to spend on insurance, the better. *

- Performances cannot (!!!!) include anything causing an obvious health hazard (e.g. enflamed materials, toxic materials, not-secured sharp objects, loaded/not secured weaponry) *

(* all performers have to fit this criteria)

The problem with incorporation of international performers is that even if the performers agree to work for free, we will still have to pay for their travel and hosting costs, as well as travel insurance. Depending how large an ensemble is and how much 'profit' there will be from the organisation of this festival, we might not be able to afford many or any international performers.

Many international performers would be possible in cities in Australia, like Sydney and Melbourne. However, Perth is much more remote and this course of action is simply not practical, hence why I recommend mainly focusing on local performers and schools/institutions they came from to promote funding by local and government agencies.

Good ideas of public advertising are small billboards outside nightclubs or around the city and also in public transport.
Why: This form of advertising will be mainly for those without social media access, perhaps those less fortunate and even younger kids who are out and about with their parents. The idea of having billboard advertising is to choose billboards that are located in areas of large traffic such as public transport, Highways and in Perth CBD.
Figure 5.4: (Trendhunter Art and Design, 2016) http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illusory-graffiti-handcuffs

In organising an event such as this, it is important to consider the work that goes on 'behind the scenes' in order for the festival to be able to go ahead and run smoothly. The aim for our community arts festival would be to support and give back to the local arts community, as well as encourage participation, education and awareness of local arts culture. This means that the festival would require both sponsorship and major funding by prominent Australian and local organisations. Sponsors would be chosen based on the vision and mentality they put forward, which would aid in the general message and ideas of our festival- including the promotion of positive health. Successful funding and sponsorship aims to cover as much as possible of the financial cost of running the festival, which means that the funds raised on the day can be put straight back into the community.
My role would be to find suitable organisations for funding/sponsorship and contacting them to propose our idea.
Logos of sponsors and funding partners would appear on advertisements and website promotion of the event, as well as on structures of the festival (eg. fencing surrounding the ground).

We could use this as an alternative or additional partner for major funding. This is specifically a Western Australian organisation which will help strengthen the focus of our festival and create awareness of the event such that it is seen as being a large scale event that immerses people in WA culture.
Figure 6.6: TourismWA, 2016.

When i set out to create the logo i had three goals in mind, clean, clear and modern. From these goals i created several guides to help my design process. A neutral background, a limited colour pallet and the use of universal signals, when combined with the events taking place at the festival, focusing around visual arts performing arts and music which is why i chose to incorporate a musical note, the happy/sad drama masks and the brush and pallet. These symbols can be almost universally recognised to represent the three aspects of the festival. Furthermore i wanted to include the crowd which is represented by the lines encircling the three symbols. Naturally i made it into an .SVG file type (Scalable Vector Graphic) so that it can be used at any resolution without distortion
7.1

For the stage animations i wanted to create something that could be manipulated in a way to match the energy, rhythm and soul of the performances and so each animation would need to be hand crafted for each performance and as i do not have the time to do such i instead decided to create a more generic animation to try and get something i can refer to. For the animation this still represents what i envisioned would be for a fireball to pop into existence every time loud or significant even occurred, a large drum beat for example, and that the speed with which it moves but also dissipates afterwards would directly correlate to the tempo of the song or performance going on. In this way it could help to enhance the mood and complement the performance. Other ideas i had were to have the colour change to match the mood of the performance and maybe to have some kind of overall motion like a shake or a zoom in and out whenever a fireball appeared.
7.2

For the trailer i really wanted for people to get a sense that what they were being invited to was an entertaining show and so naturally i decided to make the backdrop of the trailer a stage as shown in the still. What would happen in a full trailer is it would play the actual animated part onto the brick wall, which is designed to show that the event isn't an exclusive high brow thing, here first off would be the announcement of the name of the festival and the goals of the festival followed by a small spiel on all the events would play out with a narrator speaking over to give context. after having read through all the events and experiences on offer it would go on to talk about where the festival will happen, that it is designed for all ages and promote the sponsors of the festival before going to black.
7.3

While this cultural festival promotes local talent and multiculturalism, it also has an important purpose and message for the local Perth community. Because of the current political climate, when Australian schools take budget cuts, arts programs (e.g. Visual Art, Theatre/Dramatic Arts, and Music) are first to be disposed of. It means that many public Perth schools are without adequate art culture- and because our event is paid for by funding bodies, all money's raised from this festival will be going back into local public schools to fund art programs and buy facilities. This is all in an effort to promote culture/creativity amongst younger generations and give them the opportunities they deserve.

Stage space is an important part of any performance, as it establishes a certain complex relationship between the performers and the audience. When audience is higher, like in an amphitheatre, they feel partial control/power over the performers. When audience is placed o the same level, performers are more likely to interact with their audience providing them with a degree of vulnerability, these spaces are usually used for interactive theatrical productions or illusionism. When the performers are placed above the audience, like in solo musical concerts, audience comes to a point of a worship.
I chose a stage higher than the audience, as it would be easier for all to see the performers. I also chose a stage with a catwalk, because it is both equally suitable for performances and showcases.

To ensure accessibility of all performers and equipment to the stage, 3 sides would have 2-way ramps with proper railings and staff for assistance with heavy objects and coordination of 'traffic' to minimise health hazard and equipment damage.

Fig 4.1:Surasak Kerdsin.
