The film is based on the book of Fernando Cabeira. It tells the true story of the kidnapping of the United States ambassador to Brazil, Charles Burke Elbrick, in September 1969, by members of the 8 October Revolutionary Movement and the National Liberation Action, who were fighting against the dictatorship installed in the country in 1964. The group's objective was to exchange the ambassador for 15 comrades arrested by the regime. To obtain information about where the group was imprisoning the ambassador, the government tortures "in the basements of the dictatorship" a member of the group who was arrested in a bank robbery to raise resources for political militants to do the kidnapping. It is related to the book "1984" because the government controls people's lives and get information about society.
