While we were at Silk Mill, we first took into consideration mindful drawing and how we can explore this. We came to the conclusion that if there is something we can do to make people engage drawing, that is to create a situation where people have to interact with each other and merge drawings. The first idea was to make use of transparent sheets in order to create collective drawings. The process was that each and every person should draw on one transparent sheet, then overlay them and create infinite drawings and compositions of the final illustration. That would help them easily engage drawing, not be 'ashamed' of what they have drawn, and be willing to share their piece of work.

The mood sections would serve the visitors and help them engage drawing while expressing their feelings/opinion about the exhibition. The visitors would be given one or more A6 sheets, some pins and 20 SECONDS to draw and express themselves through lines. Afterwards, they would pin the sheets on the wall mood section that fits their mood most.

From idea to idea I came to the conclusion that in order to engage people into mindful drawing, you need a concept to attract them. So I thought of the mindful drawing 'event' starting with a little personality test (which everyone gets curious about) which should determine people's temperament type. There are a total of 4 types of temperaments: Choleric, Sanguine, Phlegmatic and Melancholic, each of them having its particularities and characteristics. I've done some research on these 4 temperaments type and my idea was complete. Basically, people that are attending the exhibition and are going to engage mindful drawing, will be given a short 5-questions personality test which should determine what is the predominant temperament type. Once they have it figured out, they will be mindfully drawing on A6 sheets (with shapes of diamond and rectangle, just as above), with certain colors. So if someone is melancholic (melancholic colors are purples and violet), you might say that I'd give them violet sharpies right? No. They will be given warm colors like yellow or red. There will be a wall with 4 pin boards. Each pin board will have a symbol on it (certain symbol for each temperament type). When they are done drawing, they will pin their drawing onto the pin board until the A6 sheets cover the symbol on them. Having used different colors, many interesting outcomes will appear, such as sad/dark drawings in bright colors, and happy drawings in black only. The test in the beginning is meant to help them engage drawing, get to know each other better and be part of a category of people. However, in the end, all the pin boards are fully covered by drawings of visitors. As a final conclusion, they would find out that the pin boards with darker/cold colors are corresponding to the extroverted and outgoing temperament, while the bright colored pin boards are corresponding to the more introverted temperaments.

Once again, I asked myself the question "Why?'. The visitors need to engage mindful drawing in order to achieve its great benefits. Therefore, I considered a ready-made, physical 'tool' on which they could draw, a more appropriate method of helping them engage it more easily.

The flyer will contain the museum plans, so it is going to offer them a drawing surface as well as a sense of place, as a sort of creative GPS.

The museum's plan is going to be the reason for them to engage mindful drawing, and the main idea is for the visitors to use lines in order to draw something that they remembered/understood from the exhibitions.

Once they are done visiting a room, they can have some time for themselves to draw something that they liked or appreciated and considered useful for their day-to-day life.

The drawing could vary from a simple sketch to a pattern/shape/sequence of dots/shapes etc.

The artistic supplies they will be given are either pencils, brushes or sharpies. It is their call.

This experiment will help the Derby Museums & Art Gallery understand which was the most relatable piece of an exhibition and which exhibition was the one visited the most.
