They came into the room for more one on one time and for a slower pace. They were taught the same things that were going on in their classrooms. Mrs. Meyer had 1st, 4th, and 5th graders come into her room. She only had a couple of individual desks but that is because of Covid. She said if it were a normal year she would have big desks so the students could sit right in front of her and she could help them. They also usually have a sensory room but because it is a lot to clean they aren't using it right now. Her classroom was decorated just about like the other teachers. She had the alphabet and number up on the walls. She also had punch cards and if a student was on task that day they got a punch and if they filled it out they got to pick a card for a prize. The 1st graders were learning about vowel town. I got to see them after they learned about it for 3 days and they both already had it memorized which was a big deal. The students were happy to be learning. Mrs. Meyer was very thorough and students were eager to learn. On the second day I was there one of the kids was having a bad day and Mrs. Meyer handled it very well. She was very patient and didn't get irritated that he wasn't working with her. She tried talking to him to see what was wrong but he didn't want to talk. She didn't pressure him into anything. He finally said his water bottle broke and he was upset about it. The kids seemed to understand what they were doing. Because it was more one on one time they got the information they needed and they were able to understand the material. She never got impatient. She always had a level head even when things weren't going as planned. She was super nice to me and gave me a lot of pointers. She told me that even in general education knowing how to handle a child with a disorder is important. I learned a lot while visiting with her. I know that when a student doesn't want to listen it can be tough but they won't understand why you are upset. The best thing to do is to stay positive and remember you are a role model for the kids.
