This logo is redesigned sometime in 2007 and it was a great improvement. This is when the blob in the middle is introduced and it is called 'The Color Thing'

Provide a brief description:
1. The Wacom logo looks like a blob ('The Colour Thing') made up of simple 3D shapes like cones and dots stuck together. 

This allows it to appear like it is very realistic and makes it seem like it can "pop" out of the screen.

The font used for the word wacom is simple, stylish and aesthetically pleasing to the eye due to the monoweight (same thickness) in the letters. 

The designer has given the font a somewhat futuristic identity to the name by giving tasteful quirks to the font like making the 'w' and 'm' the same shape

The overall design for the logo (To be exact, 'The Colour Thing'). 'The Colour Thing' does not seem to have any connection to Wacom company's history or values at the first glance nor does it really has any connection to any of Wacom products other than the idea of it being fun. It would be better to change 'The Colour Thing' to something consumers would be able to recognise and associate it to Wacom such as a digital stylus pen drawing dots.

I would suggest keeping the original font for the logo and adding the various colours from 'The Colour Thing' in the original to the circle. Other than that, we can change the 'W' to a font created with 3D dots like what the 2007 logo is used to retain the image of a 3D.

After that, change the colours for the logo with the colours for 'The Colour Thing' and make it 3D.

Some of the best designs are simple and sweet. Hence,  I feel that unless Wacom is able to animate to animate and move 'The Colour Thing' making it truly alive, 'The Colour Thing' will just be an extra visual element with little potential to be recognised and is better removed.

3.  The 'W' in the word Wacom is the same as the 'M' in the logo due to the font.

This creates a sense of harmony and stability due to the symmetry of the 'w' and 'm'.

2.  The Colour Thing is is made up of different colours to instill a sense of excitement.

It is interesting to note that the various colours used: yellow, purple, green, blue and pink are associated with happiness, creativity, harmony, depth, and playfulness respectively.

2. The various colours used for the cones on the logo is bright and attractive. This can be associated with fun, creativity and freedom of colour while using Wacom's products.
