The government gets their power from the people and we have the right to throw out whoever we believe shouldn’t have power anymore. We vote for government officials we favor and want to be in office, they can end up being voted out if not in favor anymore. In The Declaration of Independence we are given this self-evident truth. “Deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”The people are the governed ones and this statement says how they get their powers with our consent.

During the Articles of Confederation the 13 states joined together but kept their independence. In the Virginia Plan larger states were favored and small states in the New Jersey Plan although they should have been equal. During the Great Compromise states were represented by their population number. All states were not equal and had different ways of being represented.

The bill of rights gives us all our own natural rights such as freedom of speech, the right to have a lawyer, the right not to lose life, liberty, or property without due process of law, etc. We as Americans are entitled to many rights and they state some of these are getting arrested so that you’re aware of what your truths are. In court we have rights to not be put on trial twice for the same crime, the right to know the charges on which one is being held, and the right to obtain witnesses in one's defense, etc. In the Trail of Tears they took the native americans away from their land completely ignoring the rights that they had

During the time George Washington was president, he established a cabinet which is a body of government officials that accompany the president, apart of the executive branch. There are three branches of power we look to and they are: legislative, executive, and judicial. Each of these branches checks and balances the other ones. These branches are used to ensure the rights of the people. We look at the Monroe Doctrine as a key component to the government that it protected us and adjusted our foreign policy with Latin American countries. Assumption is when the national government assumes responsibility for paying the debts for every state along with the debt from the government.

The belief the United States should expand across the continent to the Pacific Ocean is known as Manifest Destiny. We believed that the US was destined to this by God in order to expand its dominion and spread democracy and capitalism across the North American. Continent. The idea was used to promote territorial expansion westward. President Polk strongly believed in this and by the end his four years in office ended, the nation extended from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The gold rush also played a part in expansion with western United States.
