Discover the exciting world of digital gaming, where fantasies have no limits and adventures are only a click away. In this blog post, we’re exploring the world of online games and their positive and negative effects on people nowadays. We'll use information that supports the articles written in our country to offer a local perspective on this worldwide problem. Is it a stress reliever or a stress creator?
Note: This post is for educational purposes only. Please read at your own risk.

The Positive Side

Positive Effect 1: Cognitive Benefits
Digital games may improve thinking skills like problem-solving, strategic thinking, and spatial awareness. Also, there are apps that are for educational purposes and test or train our brains; for instance, math question games, 4 pictures, 1 word, scramble words, etc. According to the study of Delos Reyes (2020) in the Philippines, Chess, along with other strategy-based video games, helps develop critical thinking by exercising the brain.

Positive Effect 2: Social Interaction
Through gaming platforms, Filipino players frequently develop relationships and groups that go beyond national borders. The study conducted by Santos and Lim (2019) illustrates how social relationships are promoted through online games. This social connection encourages cooperation and communication skills and works to prevent isolation.

Positive Effect 3: Stress Relief
Digital games are stress-relieving tools in the midst of our everyday stress. Some games have calming or meditative elements. These can help you relax and unwind, reducing your stress levels. Also, it provides a sense of achievement when you overcome challenges or achieve goals within the game. This can boost your self-esteem and mood right away. Ramirez (2021) asserts that the escape from reality offered by gaming enables people to relax and lower stress levels.

The Negative Side

Negative Effect 1: Addiction
Gaming addiction is a rising problem in the Philippines, where it can cause problems including sleep difficulties and carelessness with responsibilities. According to Tans’ (2018) article, playing video games too much might cause addiction, which can be bad for both your physical and emotional health.

Negative Effect 2: Health Issues
Mental and physical health are the most common issues gamers are experiencing. Mentally, because there are times that we lose to the game, and it affects the way we think. Physical because there are times that we forget to eat and sleep because we are too focused to reach victory. Garcia's most recent findings, published in 2019, highlight the negative health effects of extended gaming, such as sitting too much and being overweight. In a nation where obesity rates are on the rise, this issue is especially concerning.

Negative Effect 3: Academic Performance
Students who play video games too much could experience a drop in their academic performance and marks. Cruz’s 2017 research indicates that playing digital games can have a negative effect on academic achievement. The reason behind this is that a lot of students who play video games don't have time to do their homework, review for the upcoming exams because they stay up all night and just play. With all this reasoning, the child becomes lazy, resulting in low grades.

Negative Effect 4: Bad Behavior
Gamers, especially children, are the ones most affected by this, because children nowadays are very exposed to the digital world, to the point that it has become a habit. Is it a good thing that children under 7 years old have too much exposure to screens? Based on what I observed every day at home, when my mom calls my younger brothers to do something, their behavior changes. They are acting angry because they need to pause the game they are playing. In this case, I can prove that online games can change behaviors, especially in children. But of course, if a child uses a gadget at a young age, it is important that they are guided by their parents and have rules and limitations to be followed.

In today's generation, online games have a significant impact on many people's lives, having both positive and negative impacts. Gamers should be aware of addiction, mental and physical health problems, and a loss in academic performance and behaviors, even if they can improve their cognitive abilities, foster social interaction, and provide a means of stress reduction. For a healthy, balanced lifestyle, it's crucial to strike a balance between the advantages and disadvantages of digital games. Everything needs to have limitations.

Because…

“In the world of online games, limitations are the sparks that ignite your creativity and lead to legendary victories.”.

Thank you and have a great day!

References:

Delos Reyes, A.

In today's fast-paced digital world, thе intеrnеt has grown its role as a simple tool. It has become an important part of our lives. It's whеrе wе communicatе, work, lеarn, and socializе. Howеvеr, as this digital landscapе continues to еvolvе, it's еssеntial to rеcognizе thе nееd for rеsponsiblе bеhavior and еthical standards. Nеtiquеttе, a blеnd of "intеrnеt" and "еtiquеttе," sеrvеs as our guidе on how to conduct oursеlvеs onlinе. The primary reason for thе еxistеncе of nеtiquеttе is to еnsurе smooth communication and avoid misundеrstandings. Without a clеar undеrstanding of what is nеtiquеttе, pеoplе could come across as abusivе or to еxpеriеncе cybеr-bullying.

One of thе most important bеnеfits of lеarning onlinе еtiquеttе is thе formation of a hеalthy community in thе digital world. Onlinе еtiquеttе, which includеs rеspеctful communication, is еssеntial to creating a hеalthy еnvironmеnt. Pеoplе who intеract propеrly build a culturе of mutual rеspеct, making onlinе еnvironmеnts morе friеndly and opеn to mеaningful intеractions. This opеnnеss sеrvеs thе purposе of allowing for diffеrеnt viеwpoints and idеas, еvеntually strеngthеning thе digital еxpеriеncе.

Morеovеr, onlinе mannеrs sеrvе an important role in promoting good communication and collaboration. Thеy promotе compassion and considеration, which lеads to dееpеr onlinе intеractions and bеttеr coopеration. Individuals who follow thеsе valuеs arе morе likеly to participate in productivе and mеaningful interactions with othеrs. This is еspеcially rеlеvant in professional and еducational еnvironmеnts whеrе digital cooperation is becoming more common.

Additionally, good grammar, punctuation, and spеlling arе rеquirеd in writing communication. This еnsurеs that our communications arе clеar and еasy for othеrs to undеrstand, fostеring productivе and politе discussion. Also, it is important to avoid thе ovеrusе of capital lеttеrs, which is somеtimеs viеwеd as shouting in thе digital agе. Mеssagеs using a lot of caps lock might come across as nеgativе, which may prеvеnt thе constructivе sharing of idеas. Similarly, using too many еmoticons can wеakеn thе intеndеd mеssagе and may not always bе accеptablе in еvеry onlinе situation. By following thеsе guidеlinеs, wе hеlp to crеatе a morе rеspеctful and undеrstandablе onlinе еnvironmеnt.

On the other hand, disrеgarding onlinе еtiquеttе can lеad to thе еstablishmеnt of a toxic and disrеspеctful onlinе еnvironmеnt. Cybеrbullying, trolling, and hatе spееch arе еxamplеs of onlinе bеhaviors that can bе еmotionally and mеntally damaging to individuals. In addition, this behavior usually hindеrs thе frее еxchangе of idеas and mеaningful convеrsation, limiting thе frее flow of information and opinions.

Furthеrmorе, disrеspеcting onlinе еtiquеttе can cause major harm to onе's onlinе rеputation, which can havе far-rеaching еffеcts. Offеnsivе or disrеspеctful onlinе behavior can harm personal and professional chancеs, potentially jеopardizing work and relationships. In today's digital agе, whеrе information is еasily accеssiblе and еnduring, maintaining a positive onlinе imagе through thе application of onlinе mannеrs is important.

In conclusion, intеrnеt еtiquеttе is an important basis for еnsuring rеspеctful and mеaningful onlinе intеractions. Just as we prеsеrvе social standards in our facе-to-facе intеractions, we must apply nеtiquеttе rules to our digital rеlationships. Wе can build a morе plеasant and productivе onlinе еnvironmеnt for oursеlvеs and futurе gеnеrations by еncouraging rеspеct, protеcting privacy, and adopting rеsponsiblе onlinе bеhavior. By doing so, we may fully rеalizе thе intеrnеt's its potential whilе maintaining thе valuеs of rеspеct and politеnеss that support a hеalthy sociеty. In summary, nеtiquеttе еnablеs us to travеrsе thе digital world with еtiquеttе еnsuring that thе intеrnеt rеmains a strong forcе for good in our livеs and for futurе gеnеrations.

References:
https://www.avast.com/c-netiquette

Social media, which connects people worldwide and offers a platform for communication, self-expression, and information sharing, has become an essential part of our everyday lives nowadays. Social media has many advantages, but it also carries a lot of responsibilities.

Social media must be used responsibly if users want to keep them as beneficial and helpful in situations for both individual and society as a whole. This responsibility includes good behavior, polite communication, and protecting personal information and preventing the spread of false information.

Some Tips for Responsible Social Media Use:

Think before you click - In order to prevent the spread of false information and its negative consequences, it is essential to consider your actions before posting and to be aware of the proof of origin for the content you are sharing.

Turn off notifications - Turn off all your notifications on your social media accounts. With the constant notifications on our phone we always get distracted away from our work which causes us to delay our work.

Manage your time wisely - It's really simple to lose yourself on social media while scrolling through feeds and switching between TikTok and Instagram .Keep track of how long you spend scrolling, especially if you're not learning anything. Set time limitations for how long you should spend using social media applications.

Don’t accept friend requests from everybody - only accept friend requests from people you know or are familiar with. Accepting friend requests from unknown individuals increases the chance that scammers will fake your profile and gather personal data to access your online accounts.

Understand privacy settings - The ability to control your identity and personal data online makes internet privacy important. If you don't have that control, anyone with the means and the will can use your identity to help their interests, whether it's to deceive you of your savings or sell you a more expensive vacation.

Stay in control of your content feeds - You should unfollow and avoid other social media accounts that create fake news, bully others, publish inappropriate material, or make you feel self-conscious.

Give your phone a rest - Taking a break from the screen will help you bring balance to your digital and real-world lives. An effective way to improve your state of mind is to put down your phone while participating in a relaxing hobby or walk outside. You may feel more successful and have better health as a result. A person may become lonely and socially separated as a result of feeling depressed or anxiety.

In a world where social media plays an essential role in our lives, responsible use is not just a choice but a moral obligation. It requires us to be respectful towards others, protecting our privacy, researching information, striking balance in our digital lives, and actively battling misinformation. In the end, responsible social media use helps us to become a better online citizen and assures that these platforms continue to be positive and useful for individuals as well as society across the globe.

References:
https://socialbarrel.com/5-simple-tips-for-responsible-and-safe-use-of-social-media/114232/

https://www.cukeragency.com/10-ways-to-use-social-media-more-responsibly/

https://www.collegexpress.com/articles-and-advice/student-life/blog/how-to-be-responsible-using-social-media-as-a-student/

https://youthfirstinc.org/using-social-media-responsibly/#:~:text=Set%20limits%20and%20take%20breaks,settings%20and%20review%20them%20often.

Information provides facts or details about someone or something and it comes in three different forms: information, misinformation, and disinformation. The information we learned through study and investigation is also included. However, what information actually is not always evident. The meaning that is transmitted from one person to another by some sort of signal is one way to think of information. The relationship between two objects or events, however, can also be used to define information.

What is information?
From the Latin word "informare" (which meaning "to shape" or "to form") is where the English term "information" originates. It's all about expressing and communicating specific information about someone or something. It can take on a variety of shapes, including words, symbols, images, and movements. Any organization depends on information to function. It is what enables organizations to decide how to allocate resources and how to evaluate performance. Organizations couldn't operate without efficient information management.

Types of Information
• Factual - Information that can be proven to be true.
• Conceptual - It refers to the knowledge that people have about the world and the way they think about that knowledge.
• Procedural - A type of information that provides a step-by-step guide on how to do something.
• Emotional - Information that can express an emotional reaction in a person.
• Behavioral - A data that captures how individuals interact with technology.
• Attitudinal - Information about people's attitude, beliefs, and values.
• Motivational - It is designed to motivate someone to do something.

What is misinformation?
This is a kind of false information that disseminates fake news, overstatement, and other misinformation without any intention of being malicious. Misinformation can also be harmful in less obvious ways. We prevent from making fully informed judgments, and we may even be led to make choices that are against on our own best interests. Once we holds a false belief, it is highly challenging to convince ourselves to change our mind.

Examples:
• Inaccurate statistics
• Incorrect photo captions
• Parody taken as fact

What is disinformation?
Disinformation is intentionally misleading or untrue statement with the goal of causing harm is termed a false statement. The following three factors often serve as the reasons behind it: financial gain, the desire to cause chaos and confusion, or political influence or power. This kind of false information often gets up powerful emotions like anger and hatred. Without any possibility for negotiation, it may encourage us to promote extreme viewpoints, including conspiracy theories. As a result, we start to distrust the media and other institutions. According to West, confidence also moves to less trustworthy Internet locations when it leaves well-known sources.

Examples:
• Manipulated video or audio
• Fabricated content
• Intentionally created conspiracy theories or rumors

This type of information is about conveying accurate and complete information or knowledge about something, which is the basic difference between these three. While both misinformation and disinformation are types of false information, the aim is to highlight the difference. False or incorrect data that is disseminated without malicious intent is referred to as misinformation. While disinformation refers to intentionally spreading incorrect information with the intent to cause harm. In this three type of information is what we use in everyday life. We often use this in social media when there is a news or article that we're so curious about.

References
https://www.rd.com/article/misinformation-vs-disinformation/
https://theecmconsultant.com/types-of-information/#:~:text=The%20seven%20types%20of%20information,behavioral%2C%20attitudinal%2C%20and%20motivational.

As a student who lives in the new generation, all I can say is that technology has been controlling us for the past few years. The information age is the current situation in which people are living right now. We can justify what is the boon and the bane of the information age by searching online or by studying the topic of it. So, this is my perspective on the boon and the bane of the information age as a senior high school student.

Pros:

Information Access-
We all know that there are so many changes that happen in our current generation. Examples include the appliances that we use every day or social media, which helps a lot in every way. Technology is a lifesaver for some people, especially the people who live in the city; it's helping them to lessen their work. The information age also controls the information and ideas that are given. The Information Age is very helpful to a lot of people; they can lessen and do their work by just using technologies or the internet.

Communication-

Information age is very high tech because we can just tap or click some button in a social media platform to perform or to see our love ones. This also helps us to easily communicate when there are some problems or emergencies.

Education-

Our current situation is also giving benefits to the students because before there are no gadgets or platform that will help you in your studies but now you can just type whatever you want and the platform will give you what you need.

Cons:

Misinformation-

Let's tackle the bane of the information age. It can be very dangerous to live in this generation because there are a lot of crimes just by using the new technology. So many people are addicted to using it; they can just post whatever they want to destroy or degrade some people's lives. We all know that people can be driven by the news that is posted online. People are so dependent on what news they are seeing, which is bad because we depend on what we are seeing online.

Addiction-

This era is also bad for us because it can destroy our self or even control us. It may lead us to become a bad person just by seeing some posts online or the post will manipulate us.

We all don't want to be controlled by the new technology, so let's lessen it and stick to what we all know, or the basics. The information age is a very debatable topic because it's not just focused on one thing. It can help our nation, or it can be the one who destroys us. Let's not stop using it, but lessen it.

In today’s globalized world, digital technologies have become the spine of modern democracy . Voting and civic participation, as well as how we engage with our governments more broadly, rely on the digital sphere. However, this digital transition has also created an even greater divide between those who have access to and know how to use digital tools of participation (i/e digital literacy) and those who cannot. This blog post will look into the challenges of the digital democracy divide and possible solutions.

Challenges in Bridging the Divide

Bridging the digital democracy divide is not a simple task.

Information is transmitted through media, which may also be used for communication and amusement. Television, newspapers, internet, and magazines are just a few examples of the numerous media available today. While entertainment media concentrates on human interest tales, motion pictures, television series, or celebrity news, news media covers local, national, and international news. Media is frequently used to sway public opinion, affecting not just what people know about a topic but also their own opinions on political candidates and policy problems. People often search for material that supports their own beliefs, but others contend that doing so could limit their ability to become completely informed about a subject.

Old media, also known as traditional media, primarily uses non-digital advertising and marketing techniques. Businesses have long depended on these marketing strategies. These marketing and advertising strategies enabled companies just like yours turn a profit up until quite recently and were highly effective.Marketing must change, nevertheless, in order to keep up with changing customer demands and expectations. This is what has caused some of the well-known traditional marketing techniques to lose favor, which has resulted in the emergence of new media and digital marketing techniques.

All forms of communication that were available before the Internet and new media technologies are referred to as traditional media, including written materials (books, periodicals, and newspapers), broadcast media (TV, radio), cinema, and music. On the other side, new media refers to digital entertainment and video games as well as the Internet and social media. It is important to note that, despite substantial cultural and technical developments, none of the media covered in this book have fully disappeared from usage, despite the fact that many kinds of mass media experience ups and downs in popularity.

The term "new media," sometimes known as "digital media," refers to communication techniques that are mostly online or at least partially online.
