When the members of the cult were caught and questioned about the murder, one responded "Because we wanted to do a crime that would shock the world, that the world would have to stand up and take notice."
The next night Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, were killed. They were stabbed in a similar fashion and the word WAR was carved into the stomach of Leno with a fork. The walls of the LaBianca home were marked with the blood of the victims - spelling out DEATH TO PIGS and HEALTER SKELTER.

He and the other members were on trial for the Tate-LaBianca Murders. Followers, Susan Atkins, Leslie Van Houten, and Patricia Krenwinkel were tried as well. The three girls supposedly skipped and sang their way into the courtroom. It took ten days of deliberation and nine and a half months of trial to charge the girls and Manson himself. They were all sentenced to the gas chamber. However, none of them were actually executed as California had suspended the death penalty. As a result, the members and Manson got life in prison as the final verdict of the case. Manson himself inspired countless books and songs to be written about his insanity. Guns n' Roses and even David Bowie reference Manson in their music. People even idolize Manson in today's society as he has followers. He has received more fan mail than any inmate in California history.  Manson also had a relationship with one of his followers while he was in prison. In 2014 Manson was engaged to 26-year-old Elaine Burton and later obtained a marriage license. "I'm completely with him, and he's completely with me. It's what I was born for, you know.
