VIA Character Strengths Survey

After taking this survey I can say that I am not surprised by my top strengths, but I am by my lower strengths. A big learning point was what I am or perceive myself to be weaker in. Doing school work and taking tests are not most people's favorite things. For me being someone who is 20 in a masters program I think to believe my lowest strength is love of learning would be skewed. Taking away from that, maybe I need to give myself more credit. While also appreciating the access to such quality education I have. This is what I believe to be a weakness of this test, it can be what one doubts in themselves rather than a real weakness. A strength of this test, if people are unbiased, is that we know ourselves pretty well, and should be able to accurately rank our strengths.

TRUE COLORS

I found this test to be very interesting. I liked and disliked words or phrases from my color of green. I am more than happy to think I come across as thoughtful, warm, approachable, empathetic, and calm. However I feel there's a time and a place. I have anxiety so I am calmer when medicated, but I am also calm to the eye. I let my anxiety build to where it only really affects me and others I am closest with such as my partner. I feel very self aware of the things that build my anxiety and know better to just walk away. For example a test I may feel really good about, but then coming into school and hearing people talk about it right before gets me anxious when I have been fine. Those are the traits being focused, thorough, and organized from blue that I align with a lot. Most people seemed to heavily lean to one color so it was interesting to see the mix for myself. This test is strong in the relation of words used, most people felt it was pretty accurate in the results it gave. With any self test a weakness can be biases that can affect the results. To take away from this test and learn this about myself is that I could strive for less perfection. As well as be more open to communication styles and focus on what is happening in the present rather than the future.

This result was very satisfying to me. I thought it was interesting how I had one of every single different type of therapeutic style form. I was struggling while answering the questions, I was wanting to know more to make the best decision. I also felt every situation was very different and needed to be addressed as such. One thing that shocked me was how low I scored in empathizing. I am a very empathetic person, however when trying to make someone feel better I do see that I do not think verbally empathizing is always the most effective strategy. A limit of this test was how limited the options were. When working people will be mode switching and do combinations of answers. However it was strong in the way it made critical thinking vital when considering solutions.

I found this survey to rely heavily on self refection. It would have been interesting to complete this survey after watching the interview sim video as well as receiving feedback. As I brlirvr my self evaluation would have been different. My results taking this test were that I needed to be more clear and concise when I speak, which looking back on the simualtion I did pretty well. Not to say it is always perfect, as there are always times I can get caught up on my words. I do believe that a true result was that I need to keep my mind free of distractions when listening. I can start thinking ahead to problem solving, or other possibile complications. Which can cause me to miss important or leading details. Once again I believe a limitation of this quiz was that it could have been skewed by self biases. It is hard to know what is happening, what you look like, and how you are perceived when having a conversation with someone. On the other hand a strength is that it causes someone to take a step back and reflect on how they communicate with others.

This test showed I was most mindful when observing, and least acting with awareness. Another low rating was acting with awareness I think these results were pretty accurate. I can be a perfectionist, and think I have the best way of doing things. This can cause me to accept what others choose to do but I am often judging what the outcome could be. I do not think I am doing this meanly however I could work to become more open minded. Similar to all of the other tests it has the weakness of being self rated. It has the strength of switching scores and eliminating people from attempting to skew results,

My results show that I have a strength for enabling others to act. I do this by building trust with peers and having healthy communication. I enjoy making others feel confident in what they are contributing to a project. Collaboration is key to working with a group. I have done this as a team captain, or class vice president in high school, and even as a member of friend groups. It becomes easier to connect and work with others when you build each other up and can trust each other.

It becomes uncomfortable for me when people question the process. Which is why I believe this is my lowest ranking on the LPI. To me, I believe collaboration is a way to change and enable others respectfully. It can appear as though you do not trust others around you. However, it is important to question the way of going about something. You have to be able to improve the process by identifying what's not working. Over the course of college, even in this master's program, I have questioned the way I complete school work. I have addressed the way I was studying, questioning what works and what does not to improve it.
