People argued over how much punishment was too much. They also talked about the hours of work that they had to go through. These disagreements were commonly between the north and the south because the north though t it was bad and that they didn't deserve it, but the south needed them to do their work for them.

The American revolution failed to stop practice because the southerners believed that the cotton based economy would not survive without slaves. The end of slavery didn't always bring happiness, the klu klux Klan lashed out and murdered.
