         <title>Free Soil Party</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>1848-1854</p><p>A political party that aimed for the stopping slavery into the growing west.</p><p>Martin Van Buren would be the main leader of the Free Soil Party and would eventually become president spreading their ideals.  This political party would start a bigger problem of sectionalism as the war of abolishing slavery would grow stronger.</p><p>The actions of the free soil party would start debates through the ideals of Zachary Taylor, as he would keep quiet about his actions of slavery.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Election of Zachery Taylor</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>1848</p><p>He was elected and was very controversial due to him being secretive on his political stances. He also opposed the actions of Andrew Jackson. More specifically he was very against the veto of the national bank. He was a strong nationalist who governed by the ideals of Whigs but did not follow their wants of expanding on slavery. The topic was to controversial for him to speak out about in worry of starting even higher conflict on the topics of slavery.</p>]]></description>

If they did not do so they would be fined.  Abolitionists would protest against this act as they were boring forced to help slavery.</p>]]></description>

Was passed under the presidency of Franklin Pierce and his wants for slavery was a huge topic with the new states. The two parties would end up combining into the Republican party which would be ultimately against slavery before Civil War. Now that it was a bigger political party things got even messier which would end up affecting the new states such as Kansas. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>1854 - 1861</p><p>Bleeding Kansas was a bloody time period that was many  civil violent confrontations between people within the Kansas territory.</p><p>These confrontations began due to the disputes in allowing slavery in Kansas.          <description><![CDATA[<p>May 22, 1856</p><p>Senator Sumner is attacked by Representative Brooks with a cane on the Senate floor.</p><p>Sumner spoke previously on how Kansas should enter the Union as a free state and that slave holders have no true political power.</p><p>The North heavily criticized the Southern Representative Brooks because he attacked the Northern Senator Sumner. The South praised Brooks on this occasion.</p>]]></description>

This ruling also declared the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional as congress doesn't have the right to ban slavery. </p>]]></description>

John Brown aimed to create an armed insurrection within the slave community. This attempt at a large scale revolt failed and ended with John Brown dying; however, Brown was named a martyr for the abolitionist cause.</p>]]></description>
