         <title>           Abiotic Factors</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Abiotic factors vary depending on the type of desert. Typically the main factor is sunlight. Some have rocky mountains and shrubs, others have hills and hills of sand. Meanwhile in a cold desert snow, ice , and sometimes mountains are the main abiotic factors.<br><strong>Location<br>-</strong>The desert biome can be found on every continent except Europe. Desert cover about 20% of the face of the earth.<br><strong>Temp</strong>.</div><div>-In a desert the typical temperature is 100°F during the day at night the temperature lowers&nbsp; to 25°F. While in a cold desert the average temperature is 13-14°C during the summer and 5°C or below in the winter.<br><strong>Rainfall<br>-</strong>A desert by definition receives approximately 3-5 inches of rain each year.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The kangaroo rat has adapted to survive without ever drinking water. It gets it's necessary water from the seeds it eats. They also have adapted to have an amazing hear. It can hear the soft sound of a owl approaching. It's back legs with 4 toes allows the kangaroo rat to jump up to 9 feet to get away from predators. Kangaroo rat's have punches but, not for carrying babies. In fact they are  outside of their cheeks the purpose of these pouches is to carry food back to their burrow.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Fishook Barrel Cactus</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The fishook barrel cactus has a 2 foot diameter barrel shaped body, long spines, and flowers/fruit that grows on top of the plant. This cactus can grow 2-4 feet but can grow to be 6-10 feet tall. It can reach a diameter of 18 to 30 inches or more. This plant is able to live up to 50-100 years because of its adaptations. Another amazing adaptation is that the water it contains has oxalic acid and causes diarrhea if consumed when the stomach is empty.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The desert marigold forms a head 2 inches in diameter and are bright yellow in color. The leaves are green with silver-white hairs, lobed, and grow very low on the thick stems. This plant has been able to adapt and grow on sandy or gravelly soils of roadsides, plains, washes, mesas, and pinyon-juniper communities. They have also developed an interesting feature in order to survive which is either fresh or dry they are poisonous to goats and sheep but not cattle.</div>]]></description>

The predator is the  great horned owl. while the prey is the kangaroo rat. The kangaroo rat can jump up to 9 feet in the first jump. But, that doesn't mean it can escape the great horned owls  powerful talons that are made to kill and carry animals several times bigger than themselves.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The arctic poppy have an adaptation where they are covered on black hair which makes them hard and tough. All though at the top it has some gorgeous yellow or white petals. Arctic Poppies have another interesting feature. They continuously turn towards the sun following it's path across the sky. You can find them growing in meadows, mountains, and dry river beds. They also have the ability to grow stones.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The polar bear is an amazingly strong swimmer they can swim long distances for several hours. The polar bear has also adapted to where they have a thick layer of fat (can be up to 11 cm thick) which keeps them warm while swimming. Although this thick layer of fat can cause the polar bear to overheat. Another adaptation is there thick white fur which allows insulation and camouflage. </div>]]></description>
