Daisy, Maryna K, Chia and Salah - 1j - GIF

We have focused our outline on the American legislative system, and the role it plays in the American dream. After having watched the film “Fifteen minutes", we have agreed that the American legislative system is one of the main attractions for people who believe that they can live in the USA and commit any sort of crime, because there are many of ways of getting away with it. For example, Emil says to the fireman: “I will kill you, I am insane". - What he really means to say is that the law will protect him if he commits a crime, because he is declared mentally ill.

[work by Nicholas, Lianina, Maryna J and Olena]

Fifteen Minutes is a movie from 2001, which is covers many themes in modern American society.

The central characters in the film are two Eastern European immigrants, Emil and Oleg, who come to New York in America in search of opportunity and success in the forms of money and fame.

The core of the film is concerned with the interplay between the roles of power (in the form of fame and influence), money and modern law / civil rights.

Emil and Oleg are enticed by the possibility of freedom in America. They interpret “freedom” in America as being able to act how they see fit without any consequences to their actions. This can be seen in the beginning of the movie when Oleg steals a camcorder from an electronics store after seeing its marketing tagline “You can be the star of YOUR own movie”.

Throughout the rest of the movie, Oleg is continually filming his and Emil’s actions, and quickly becomes deluded that they are stars in their own film.

Oleg wants to be a director even at the start of the movie, when he says at the airport “my name is Frank Capra” - a reference to a successful American immigrant story which he clumsily and savagely tries to recreate in his own life.
