Group Name: Of Human Bondage

We chose Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham as our group name because it portrays the journey of Philip Carey, a medical student, as he grapples with life's hardships and the pursuit of purpose. Philip’s struggles to balance his medical studies with personal desires highlight the challenges of self-discipline, sacrifice, and emotional vulnerability — experiences many students can relate to. The novel explores how human beings are often bound by their passions, insecurities, and circumstances, making it a powerful reflection on the pursuit of both knowledge and self-discovery.

relevant websites: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/351

https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/109372/of-human-bondage-by-w-somerset-maugham-introduction-by-selina-hastings/

Group 4：The Frog Prince

We chose The Fog Prince as our group name. Because this is the first fairy tale that comes to my mind, which is also our favourite one.

"The Frog Prince" is a widely known Grimm's fairy tale that tells the story of a beautiful but capricious princess and a frog. The princess loses her beloved golden ball in the forest, and the frog offers to help on the condition that she makes him her companion. Although the princess agrees, she does not keep her promise until the king insists that she must honor her word. When the princess finally accepts the frog and throws him against the wall, he transforms into a handsome prince, revealing that he had been cursed by a witch. This story is not only filled with magical elements but also carries important lessons about integrity and the value of inner beauty.

https://www.books.com.tw/products/CN11357763?srsltid=AfmBOorjggrxBf9fATctYuJ5qeJAgHHsaPUd5WBcacfW_tqgPdG

Y7kdd

We chose "The Little Match Girl" as our group name because it is a well-known literary work by Hans Christian Andersen. The story has been translated into more than a hundred languages, making it familiar to people worldwide. And this is a very intentional story that can represent our childhood.

"The Little Match Girl" tells the tragic story of a poor girl trying to sell matches on a freezing New Year's Eve. Afraid to return home without making any sales, she lights matches to stay warm and sees beautiful visions—warmth, food, a Christmas tree, and her beloved late grandmother. In her final vision, her grandmother takes her to heaven. The next morning, she is found frozen to death with a smile on her face.

The story highlights themes of poverty, neglect, and fleeting hope, emphasizing the stark contrast between the lives of the impoverished and the privileged. Through this heartbreaking tale, the author conveys deep emotions and social criticism, making it a powerful and thought-provoking piece of literature.

https://www.books.com.tw/products/F013972215?loc=P_br_r0vq68ygz_D_2aabd0_B_2

Group Name: The Old Man and the Sea

Introduction to the Book

The Old Man and the Sea is a novella written by Ernest Hemingway in 1952. It tells the story of Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman who struggles to catch a giant marlin far out in the sea. Despite his physical limitations and bad luck, Santiago demonstrates perseverance, resilience, and an unbreakable spirit. The novel is a classic example of Hemingway's minimalist writing style and explores themes of determination, dignity, and man's relationship with nature.

Why We Chose This Book

We chose The Old Man and the Sea as our group name because it symbolizes endurance and the power of the human spirit. Santiago’s relentless battle with the marlin reflects the challenges we face in life, reminding us to never give up, even when the odds are against us. Just like Santiago, we strive to stay determined and strong in the face of difficulties.

We choose peter rabbit because we think that the story is interesting and a lot of children like Peter too because some kid is also mischievous and not showing obedience to their parents so their parents can show this story to their child and tell them what will happen when the child is not behaving well .Peter is a bunny but you can feel like he is smarter than most human , so we want to make it into our own version of Peter rabbit . Also Peter is more adventurous than his siblings so that make him more easier to get into trouble like human nowadays people always said you need to be adventurous but sometimes it's a bad idea to be adventurous without caution for your surroundings. Peter mother is also worried for Peter because he always didn't like to his mother , when she know Peter was almost get caught and losing his shirt with his shoes at the same time so his mother punishing him by giving him drinking chamomile tea while his siblings is eating a lot of suppers . I think this point is also important messaging to parents meaning that you can teach your child in a soft way not like forcing your kid by punishing them to do something too hard or yell at them . Peter mother also have her own reason why she don't want Peter to get around the garden because she scared that Peter will end up like his father too , I think this is also a important message that every parent have their own reason to be strict.
