Go boards a re a great way to display a daily schedule and the student can press it when they want to express where they want to go when they are ready. It also gives them the sense of calmness knowing what the schedule is for the day. You could implement this item in your daily routine with the student. First thing in the morning show them and have them click the school house button so they know they have started their schedule for the day.

This is a great tool for a person to communicate with. It is different from an iPad and has a simple button the user can press with their chin or hand. If a person is wheelchair bound and cannot use their limbs they can use their chin to press the button. It can record up to 50 messages. The person records the choices they want in the categories. I have linked a great demonstration video with how it operates and when it can be used.
https://youtu.be/syTwRrPqs5Q

Using hand signals in the classroom is great for autistic students and general education students. It benefits the whole classroom when you can communicate your needs to the teacher around you without saying anything. It helps those who cannot remember how to ask for help what sign to use and express simple wants and needs. These could be displayed in the classroom and gone over regularly to remind students. If your students get off track with using their signs. Just have a week or two where you spend more time focusing on using the signs correctly with everyone and if some are still struggling have some one on one time with them to help master.

Communication boards are a low-tech way for students to communicate wants and needs before having to step into a PECS system. The communication board has everything in front of the reader for them to select from. These can be used when making choices about what to eat for lunch or their choice activity. IF the child cannot successfully form a command by two weeks then I would recommend a different system.

If the students classroom has a hire teacher turn over rate the student can use their communication dictionary to help new people working with them understand them better. For example, if they were holding a conversation and could not pronounce a word or mispronounced it they could pull out their dictionary photo album and show the image for the other person to understand.
