There was a moment when a Sec 1 student was feeling overwhelmed and anxious about the new school environment. I took the initiative to approach them, listen to their concerns, and offer words of encouragement. I shared my own experiences as a Sec 1 student and reassured them that it's normal to feel nervous. By being fully engaged with the Sec 1 students, I was able to build stronger connections and provide more effective support.

One of the values i felt i had to exhibit the most was peseverence. The sec 1s were very shy which was understandable since it was only their first few days. We had to peservere in order to ensure that they were all participative in the programme that the school had planned for them. It was hard at first because non of them looked excited and did not participate in example , the MAKAN cheer . They were not interested or some did not even want to try. But we had to peservere and try to make them join in. It made me feel upset at first when they did not want to listen and follow but i knew that i could not give up and tried my best to lead them and make them comfortable with one another and even with me.

One example I did to inspire the sec 1s to do the same was to cheer one another. We were doing mini challenges in the class which required teamwork. I saw that some were struggling and was really nervous. I decided to start cheering so that they will feel more motivated and some others started cheering for their peers which made a good bond between one another. And because of the positive cheers and energy , the team excelled and there were new friendships and bonds being made !

It was very unexpected when i found that i was the only girl faci that took care of the sec 1 class which made me feel overwhelmed. The rest were boys . That was when i realised that i had to step forward as i knew that the girls would be more comfortable with me. So , I had to ensure that all the girls were comfortable and that they all did not feel that i was being biased as there were quite many girls so it was abit difficult to ensure all of them had fair treatment. I had to make sure that they were having fun so i told the boy facis to take care of the boys while i’ll be taking care of the girls since luckily , they were closer to me. I had to ensure that i talked to everyone of them , remember their names , make them all participate and left no one out.

I had to stepped out of my comfort zone multiple times. Firstly , I had to raise my voice to ensure my sec 1 class could hear me especially in the canteen because all the sec 1 classes were their and it was hard to communicate as the noise from each class was overlapping. Especially since my class was late and was the last , it was very messy but we had to set our minds straight and made sure everyone was following instructions. Another experience that made me step out of my comfort zone was when i had go explain to the class , instructor and teachers about places of the school . The stares were all on me and i knew i had to say the right information and get my points straight . I had to be loud and clear . I also had to be confident of what i was saying so that they won’t doubt me. It was challenging but quite an experience

I felt that my role in helping in the sec1 orientation was that it is an accomplishment for all of us ! Im very proud of everyone because we tried our best . It was stressful and challenging but i learned a lot from this. I made new connections and got close with my student leaders. I got to know my juniors and seeing them from the first dah of school and now , they grew more confident and comfortable which made me so proud of them and ourselves. This is a very amazing experience and i had so much fun working with teachers, instructors and students leaders to make our juniors feel more safe in out school as they will be in Westwood for quite some time and is good that they are adapting to school very fast. Some of them will be in the same position as me soon ! It is such a memorable experience and i hope to this again next year !

The value that i have demonstrated during the sec 1 orientation is perseverance . I showed perseverance through overcoming the challengers together as a class despite being different individually . Despite the challenge , we overcomed it by persevering to work as a team to be able to win all the games that were being planned . For example , we were able to make a class cheer with everyone’s creative minds combined together .

Some of the moments were i had to set an good example to the sec 1 was when they were all shy and hesitant to do most of the group discussions or the activities planned , knowing that if it prolongs we would not be able to get any work done so i went to them and tried to motivate them by cheering them on , speaking encouraging words for them to feel excited end enthusiastic to do the activities . Thankfully , after giving them positive attention they were all able to finally open out of their shells and mingle with one another to do the work and even contribute into the discussions being made.

i did not encounter any unexpected situations but during the group discussions , there were some girls who were too shy or scared to voice out their thoughts , so they were abit left out . By avoiding that to happen , i stepped in and ask their opinions on the topics being discussed , i gave a friendly voice and smile to the girls so that they will be able to be more comfortable with me , after awhile they got comfortable and started sharing their ideas to me and the rest . I was relieved that after giving her some advice and reassurance, she was able to speak up and say what she wanted to say.

There were times that i had to step out of my comfort zone , for example during the recess time for the sec 1 , the canteen was very noisy , making it hard for the facilitators like myself to make instructions clear and everyone being able to hear what i am saying . So i had to shout out and be confident of what i am saying so that the sec 1 would not doubt whatever i have said . Another time was when we had to cheer for them while doing their amazing run , having to start the cheer first was nerve wracking for me as i am not the type of person to shout , but i know for a fact that the other facilitators would follow through the cheer making me less nervous saying it

I feel a sense of achievement and responsibility by being an sec1 faci for the orientation . I am grateful that i was given this opportunity to be able to be a part of leading the orientation . It was a struggle at first but i learnt to persevere with my sec1 class and we made it through in the end ! I am also grateful that i was able to bond with some of the girls and boys in my class . Seeing them grow from the first day till now makes me happy ! . It was a memorable experience working with my other facilitators , teachers , instructors and students , this orientation has shown me responsibility and resilience . I would love to be apart of the sec1 orientation next year too !

During the Sec 1 Orientation, I tried to show the school values like resilience, compassion, and innovation by being patient and supportive to the new students. For example, when the Sec 1s are unsure of anything,I made sure to encourage them and remind them that it's okay to make mistakes and they don’t need to be scared to try! I tried to show compassion by being approachable, listening to their concerns, and offering help when needed. They were quite shy and reserved at first but over time they opened up more because the facilitators were trying to make them feel comfortable. As a student council member, I also showed courage to lead by stepping up when things needed to be organized and ensuring everyone felt included and motivated. My passion to serve came through by actively supporting and helping the trainers and the other facilitators in creating a welcoming and positive atmosphere. Being the overall IC also meant that the facilitators could also face some struggles and I tried my best to be there to help! It wasn’t an easy job for the facilitators but I hope I made it easier for them to handle.

2) Yes, there were moments where I had to set a good example, especially when some of the Sec 1 students felt shy or hesitant to participate. In those moments, I made sure to take the lead, showing them that it’s okay to step out of your comfort zone. a few students weren’t keen to join in, so I led by example and participated first, making it look fun and inclusive. I would go to each class and if that class seemed a little less hyped I would join in and try to make it as fun as possible. There were also times where they had to make the class cheers and choose a class name but the whole room was silent so I started by giving my suggestions and then soon everyone else started too.

3) Yes, there were a few unexpected situations where I had to think creatively or make quick decisions. For example, during one of the team-building games, the Sec 1s students weren’t really getting into the spirit of the activity, and it was starting to drag. So for some parts facilitators joined in to make it as fun as possible. This helped to increase the energy and made the activity more engaging.

4) I definitely had to step out of my comfort zone during the programme. As a facilitator I had to yell a lot to create the camp atmosphere which definitely made me a little shy at first. but I had so much fun and I was really happy while doing it

5) I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness about my role as a facilitator in the Sec 1 Orientation Programme. At first, I was a bit anxious about whether I could lead and support the new students effectively, but as the day went on, I began to feel more confident in myself and my abilities. We didn’t get to go through the games or anything before the actual orientation so it did make me a little nervous but overall it went still really well!!! It was rewarding to see the Sec 1 students opening up and getting involved, and knowing that I played a part in making them feel welcomed in Westwood made me feel proud.

During the Sec 1 orientation, i managed to show school values like compassion and resilience. For example , despite facing a lot of challenges at first as the Sec1s were very shy to speak out and interacted with us during activities , me and my team managed to preserve through and encourage them continuously so that they can be more willing to share their ideas and find us more approachable. Also during the makan cheer, we all saw that the sec1s did not have the courage to interact with us and say the cheer out loud with us, so i would approach them and have a chat with them casually so that they could feel more comfortable in the school! Our facilitators were also using our fullest energy and cheer to the loudest so that the sec1s could see our compassion in this

During one of the vendor game of which each and every one of them had to hold a card of a hobby and walk up to those that have the same hobby as them. Initially i could observe that the girls only approach those girls and boys only approach boys, so i decided to get into them and start mixing people around. I started this by chatting with them on their hobbies and their future expectations in westwood after that i would make those friend groups of girls and boys mix around so that they could make more friends.

When we all had to draw flags, the girls in my class were either too shy to draw their ideas out or did not have any idea at all in mind and thus no matter what suggestions that gave, they were still hesitant to do anything about the piece of paper. So , me and the other facilitators decided that we could start the drawing by ourselves and give them simple ideas to do. Such as just pasting stickers on the flag , or everyone to draw a heart shape on the flag using different colors. These simple instructions helped them through , and thus we managed to finish it on time.

I made myself talk to them all the time and tried to be most friendly to them all the time, even though there were times when my patience was draining as they really could not follow our instructions or were just too introverted to talk during interactive activities , i still managed to be very patient and encourage them continuously

I think the experience was a very memorable one , we got to know the new Sec1s and also had the opportunity to lead them through their first two days in school , it could be quite hard for all the facilitators at first but knowing that it was because of our efforts , they got to be more adapted to the school environment , i felt accomplished

I showed passion to serve in terms of taking initiative by volunteering to help with any activities and any work given by the vendor . Secondly i showed resilience when the sec ones were not cooperating and they did not wajt to listen to me . But i was patient and still used different cheers to gather their attwntion

Yes i did , as when they were not listening when the other sec ones were trying to present their performance , they were chattering among themselevs , and therefore me and the other facis had to step up to request for them to listen attentively and show respect

I think the only difficult situation was when the vendors requested me to help out with the class cheer , and the students were still awkward and not coming up with ideas , so me and my other faci were trying out best to think of basic examples , therefore they would follow and think more outside of the box

Most of the time it was when the whole cohort assembled together and there was so much commotion going on , therefore it went to the extent when i had to raise my voice in order to lower down the volume and talking

I think i played quite a fair part in the orientation , as i stepped up once in a while to help with any disciplinary matters , I think i was rather quite patient as they are new comers to the school and that they are q younger generation than us , therefore we have to be more patient in any action that we do .

i think i have demonstrate the values by Displaying Respect and Kindness towards the sec 1 with a smile and a welcoming attitude. At first it was hard for us fasic to communicate and interact with the sec 1 as they were very shy at the beginning, but through out the days we had managed to broke them from their comfort zone and made them interactive with everyone especially within their classmates. As i had also learned responsibility to make sure that they listen to their teachers teaching lessons and too stay organised at all time.

During the Secondary 1 orientation, there were several moments where I had to set a good example for the students. For instance, when a disagreement arose during a group activity, I calmly intervened, encouraged respectful dialogue, and modelled how to compromise effectively.Additionally, I made an effort to include anyone who seemed left out, inviting them to participate with their pears. when there were moments of challenges I stayed calm, and maintained a positive atmosphere. By handling these situations with patience, respect, and integrity, I showed the students how to embody the values and behaviours we wanted them to embrace.

Yes, I encountered unexpected situations during the Secondary 1 orientation where I had to think quickly and creatively. For example, during a group activity, the materials we planned to use ran out because there were alot of students joining. I quickly improvised by dividing the group into smaller teams and adjusting the activity to use fewer materials. These moments taught me to stay calm, adapt to changes, and find solutions on the spot to keep the program running smoothly.

I stepped out of my comfort zone by taking on responsibilities I wasn’t used to, like speaking in front of a large group and leading activities. At first, I felt nervous, but with the help of my seniors I reminded myself that the students were looking up to me for guidance. I also approached students who seemed shy or left out and made an effort to include them, even though I’m not always the most outgoing person. By pushing myself to be confident and approachable, I was able to support and guide the Secondary 1 students effectively.

I felt proud and happy to be a facilitator in the Secondary 1 orientation programme. At first, I was a bit nervous about taking on the role, but as the programme went on, I felt more confident and enjoyed helping the new students. It felt good to know I was making them feel welcome and comfortable. I also realised how important it is to be patient, listen to others, and stay positive. The experience taught me that I can step up to challenges and be a good role model for others.

I demonstrated the courage to lead. Usually, I am not very outspoken but through the sec1 orientation, I got the courage to speak up and interact with the sec1s and my fellow facilitators. I also managed to get closer with my facilitators and worked with them to lead the sec1s.

Yes. There was one moment during one of the activities, whereby the sec1s had to go around the classroom and find classmates with common interests and I noticed a student who was constantly standing at one corner, too shy to approach her classmates. So I asked her if she wanted me to follow along with her, so that she wouldn’t be as shy or awkward. She agreed and we managed to find quite a lot of classmates with common interests.

Yes. When my class had to decorate their flag and choose a class name, everyone was shy and did not want to speak out. We only had half an hour for them to complete that activity. With the limited time we had, my other facis and I decided to encourage and motivate them and give them ideas for their class name and flag decoration. We gave out crayons and markers to each of the sec1s and told them to draw anything that comes to mind. soon enough, everyone was contributing to the flag making.

As mentioned earlier, I am not a very outspoken person. So shouting really loudly for cheers, and to speak in front a class I have met for the first time was quite new to me. Additionally, many of the sec1s were quite shy and some were quite loud. Hence it was quite hard to get the whole class’ attention. I had to challenge the process, stepping out of my usual comfort zone of being quiet, to speaking up to lead the sec1s and help them throughout the programme. During recess, I would sit with some of them and initiate conversations, so that they all could find common interests amongst each other. Thankfully, by the end of day 2, I saw more of the students in my class making new friends and sharing a stronger bond.

5. I definitely felt anxious, but excited. Since sec1, I had always wanted to be a facilitator. However, with me being shy and quiet, I was not sure if I could pull it off. Since I had the passion to serve, I managed to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone, I led the sec1s, ensured that no one was left out and that everyone was having fun. I am grateful that I had my other facilitators by my side who I had also grown closer with to assist me during these 2 days.

1.) During the sec one orientation, I demonstrated the values of resilience, compassion and courage to lead. I encouraged them to participate in their class activities as they were really shy and quiet, and I also tried to approach students who were sitting alone during recess and talk to them.

2.) Yes, there were a few times when the sec ones were chatting while the teacher was talking, so i stepped in and told them to show respect when someone is talking. Also, when the sec ones were feeling shy and scared to contribute to the activities, my facis and I joined them to break the ice and encouraged them to share their ideas.

3.) Yes, I remember the time when some of the students were supposed to decorate, design and think of their class name. Due to the amount of time given, the process felt a little rushed. As the students were sitting quietly and unsure of what to do, i decided to step in and ask them about any ideas they had in mind. I also googled for some interesting class names so that they can refer to it and have a better hang of what they can come out with. Soon after this they had thought of a class name that everyone agreed on, and they started communicating more and contributing to the team.

4.) During the sec one orientation programme, I found myself stepping out of my comfort zone more especially when i had to lead the sec ones and talk to them. It was a challenge to take on the responsibility and interact with the sec ones. Before that i was very nervous, but I encouraged myself to communicate more with the sec ones so that i can get to know more about them, and what i can do to make this orientation a more inclusive and enjoyable programme for them so that they can feel a sense of excitement about the new school year. By stepping out of my comfort zone, i have also learn how to better communicate with others, especially those I don't know well.

5.) I feel very happy and glad that I am part of the sec one orientation. Through this programme, I have learned to grow as a leader and become more confident. I also had a great time with my sec one class, and they were a bunch of cheerful students! At first they seemed very reserved and shy, but as time goes by they started to open up and participated in the activities actively. Overall, the sec one orientation was a great and memorable experience for me and I enjoyed it a lot!

Seeing everyone enjoy themselves made all the effort truly worthwhile!

The organization of the activities was quite messy, and I’m not satisfied with myself because it didn’t meet my own standards. Moving forward, I think we can improve by having meetings with the people in charge of each group, ensuring they fully understand their roles and can effectively brief others.

In the future, we should also involve people who have relevant skills related to the activities we’re planning, as they would be the best at guiding and assisting. Additionally, setting up a designated booth for photos would help streamline the process, so we don’t have to run around the entire canteen to take pictures but moving forward I believe we have learned our lesson , will and must do better the next time.

My actions did reflect on the school values as i was able to show the value of resilience while handing problematic situations. I was able to calmly understand the context of the problem and be the centre person to help work things out without having any disputes between the two parties. With this value that i hold , i was able to quickly bounced back from the hardships and continue duty as normal.

I think some areas where morning duty could be more effecient is when some of the other student councillors do not come for duty and skip or arrive late to duty. To make sure that all student councillors arrive or come to duty on the dot is to set a consequence . After 3 strikes , if they still do not come early , they will have to write a one paragraph reflection on why they were not able to come on time

I supported my fellow SC members by saying encouraging or motivating words to be able to boost their energy and do their duty properly. One thing i can do differently next time to foster a more positive school environment is by being more inclusive , meaning before duty starts , i would make small conversations to try to make everyone abit happier and a more welcoming atmosphere.

Question 1 : Coming to duty points on time at school shows responsibility and discipline. Being on time shows that we are well-organized and clear about what to do. Even if there is doubt, we should clarify on time, reducing the chances of making mistakes and helping us to bring out our best.

Question 2 : During morning duties, I noticed areas for improved efficiency, such as better task delegation and clearer communication. Some members seemed unsure of their roles, causing delays. A structured checklist or rotation system could help streamline responsibilities, ensuring smoother operations and a more organized start to the day.

Question 3 : During duty, I helped my sec 2 buddy by encouraging him to help me with chasing the students. Even though it was difficult encouraging him to chase the students, I was still supportive of him and then he would get the courage to ask the students to go to their respective venues. What I can do differently is that I should sometimes help him chase out the students as he may be too scared to ask so he may need me to accompany with.

I have had the chance to work with dyan during events and got to know her better which allowed me to cooperate better while I have patrolled with Heriza more which led to know what she usually does during patrol, allowing me to patrol effectively with the idea of how others do this.

2 the Teacher’s Day event as taking part of it was quite fun. Especially when we were able to wave our flashlights together during the final. I felt that it was a good way to express and show my appreciation for teachers through my actions.

3 I feel that a day where students could come in an appropriate outfit of a character from their favourite book would be fun as it will be a great way to take their minds off studies for one day, dress up together and show our interests. Another idea is a giving out a snack with a note that has uplifting quotes on them.

1. Heriza and Wei tong. These two, along with the other SCs, have made morning duty fun and something I can look forward to. I learnt how to be more patient and resilient, for example, whenever i face challenges nowadays, the first thing I’d do is to think of what would happen if instead of me giving up, I overcame it instead. This is because from these two confident and kind girls, they taught me how to persevere, and because of them, I feel more accepted and confident, as a member of the SC.

my favouriye activity was definitely the words for the heart activity. This is because not only were we able to interact with other westwoodians and hear their quotes, but we also brightened their day. However, my favourite part was when we got the quote, because it really motivated me to keep working hard, and it really touched me. I felt really grateful toward this activity for even existing.

If I could, I would add in a day every two years where we can wear our own, appropriate and comfortable attire. Nothing too exposing or revealing, just a day where we can express ourselves through our outfits, and choose comfort over practicality. However, I do not want to force the students to do it, so I’ll create a survey before it, and if more than half the school agrees, we’ll do it, but it’ll be optional, for those who don’t want to wear other clothes.

another idea is carrying out a mental health booth, where we can give away “stress balls” that are easy to make, by taking balloons and putting flour inside, something my primary school did, and really encouraged the students to work harder everyday.

Finally, i learned that being adaptable is the most important thing like unexpected issues will always come up, but staying calm and finding solutions quickly makes a big difference in the event.

1.

This year, I had the opportunity to get to know Isabella and krystal better. I learned that they are very reliable and can trust with the work we give them, and complete tasks on time. Working closely with them taught me the importance of balancing creativity with reliability, and this has strengthened our bond as Student Councillors. It also helped me appreciate how each of us contributes different strengths to the council, making our teamwork more effective.

2.

The event I enjoyed the most this year was Teachers’ Day (Teachers’ Oscars Awards). I found it especially meaningful because I was trusted with important tasks such as preparing the voting system, designing certificates, and creating slides for the concert. Seeing the event come together successfully and watching teachers feel appreciated made the experience very rewarding. It was memorable because it reminded me how our efforts directly impact the school community in a positive way.

3.

One idea is to introduce a peer appreciation wall where students can write encouraging notes to one another. This would foster positivity and help students feel recognised by their peers. Another idea is to organise small group bonding sessions during recess, where students from different levels can take part in fun activities or discussions. This would help break down barriers between levels and create a stronger sense of belonging. Both ideas support our shared vision by encouraging kindness, inclusiveness, and stronger connections within the Westwood community.

(planning) And rushing to give the goodie bags to the teachers all while keeping a calm and friendly demeanour as it was their day. (Execution). I demonstrated commitment by sacrificing some of my time where I could watch my Drama in exchange of completing the paper full of heart-felt notes/messages. (Planning) I also showed up to the teachers day rehearsal and did my part in ensuring it all goes well between me and my team members.

-A challenge I faced while executing the event was the miscommunication between me and my teammates. The miscommunication was then resolved when we took a quick time-out to cool down and resumed with the execution of the event.

- A lesson I have learned that could potentially improve the planning of future events are knowing the importance of the event itself and having the sense of urgency when it comes in completing a task together as a team.

-There was a moment where one of my teammates was feeling anxious. I supported her by giving words of reassurance that it will all go smoothly and that she should not be too afraid. Knowing more about both has made talking and interaction with them not awkward.

- I enjoyed the 'about recess' where I had to interview some of my friends about how the food in the canteen was like and got them to rate it out of ten. what made it memorable for me is how I had to retake one of my friend's reaction multiple times because of how she couldn't stop herself from laughing from the nervousness and the funny faces my other friends were making.

- I think we should have a program where students get to dress themselves up as their favourite characters from their favourite movies/ books to make the school more welcoming and make it look as if our school is chill and cool. This could also potentially make them discover other people's hidden interest and bond with one another as they have something to talk about.

- Another program I think we could have to make the school more inclusive is having a week dedicated to problem awareness ( i Dunno how to say it but like it is )where students could scan a qr code, publicly announce themselves or anonymously share their problems and ways they overcome it so that other students don't make the same mistake and avoid it.
