All the RBIS were present in Sam's learning. She systematically started with foundational skills with the prefixes and then moved through the other RBIS.

Effectively internalizing the unit entails going through all components of the unit, looking at the TEKS and ELPS assessed and how they should be taught. It highlights the most important topics of the unit and what students need to know in order to show what they learned.

Teachers will reflect on where the students are coming from and where they need to get to and how they can help students reach the goal.

Review the key components for each unit and make sure that I understand them, where they appear in the unit, and how that builds to the final assessment. If I understand each of these steps, I will be able to effectively and intentionally plan each lesson.

This process helps everyone involved narrow their focus on the why's behind the instruction, which then helps you make more intentional instructional decisions.

You can effectively internalize a unit by making sure that you complete the unit assessment(s) as a student and determine exactly what student are expected to know in order to be successful. Internalization also allows for successful delivery of lessons.

Both the unit and lesson internalization are focused on helping teachers deliver high quality instruction that reaches all diverse learners. Both focus on protocols that are very similar and are designed around a backwards planning design which allows teachers to gain insight into the success criteria for students.

The pre-work for both is to "read through the lesson in its entirety" using the Teacher Guide.

The four steps of unit internalization closely mirror the four steps of lesson internalization. It is important to understand the big picture, see the scope and pacing of the lesson, do the work of the students while plan for differentiation, and prep materials.
