Even though Neil diamond's song They use similar instruments including the use of strings and well sung back up vocals to build up their big hooks to create this beautiful wall of sound. This is shown in Sweet Caroline with the line "And when I hurt, Hurting runs off my shoulder, How can I hurt when I'm holding you". This is also shown in "I can't help myself" with a little darker and slightly sad lyrics "Wanna tell you I don't love you tell you that we're through and I've tried But every time I see your face I get all choked up inside". He get's hurt by his love but just being with her is enough to get the hurt to run off his shoulders.

In both songs they manager to sing with so much soul, and with the help of back of singer they both give off a gospel inspired sound. The guitar riff used Etta's song sounds pretty close to the bass line used in "I found you". In my opinion I feel like the organ leads most of the song in "I'd rather go blind". She's so in love that it's too hard for her to just  give up her love towards this person then to just let them go. Alabama shakes sing

Though Alabama shakes gets the happy ending with keeping their love it was still a long and difficult journey to reach that point.
