""So I bought this island, built this house, and here I do my hunting. The island is perfect for my purposes—there are jungles with a maze of traits in them, hills, swamps--'" (page 24)
This quote symbolizes how twisted and psychotic Zaroff's mind is. The jungle's complexity relates to Zaroff's mind because he has lost sense of reality; he was so caught up in his "game."

"'Hunting? Good god, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder.'" (page 25)
The jungle symbolizes evil and manipulation. Throughout Rainsford's time there, he was influenced by the savagery from the jungle and Zaroff's hunting game. Before coming to the island, he was flabbergasted from the thought of killing another human being. Towards the end, he had to kill Zaroff for his sake of getting off the island in one piece.

The jungle symbolizes Zaroff's twisted and corrupt mind. This symbol is introduced when Rainsford saw the light coming from Zaroff's house and assumed there was a lighthouse there. Therefore, he swam to the shore, seeking help. Zaroff uses the lights as a manipulation tool so he could lure sailors into his island. The jungle also had a negative effect on Rainsford. It made him develop and change his mind about hunting humans.
This story was concluded by Zaroff and Rainsford switching roles. At the beginning, Zaroff was the hunter, and Rainsford was the prey. At the end of the story, Rainsford transformed into someone he never thought he would be. The jungle connects to this because just like how Rainsford got trapped in the jungle, he also got trapped in Zaroff's distorted game. The jungle's impact on Rainsford gave him another view on reality.
