With the paper coiling we didn't have to cut and sculpt as much as the clay. With the clay we could make any shape that we wanted and it was easy, but with the paper coil we were limited to shapes. With the paper coil we could do what ever color yarn we wanted, but with the clay it was either red clay or white clay. But the good part about the white clay (which i did) was that it turned pure white, and we got to paint it what ever color we wanted inside. With the indian coil basket it was easy to build and wrap straight up. But with the clay bowl it was hard to stay straight and not go out or in. Both projects were extremely fun but the one that i liked the most was the Indian Coil basket.

When I created the paper coil bowl I had sort of a pattern. I threaded the needle below where I stopped then wrapped the string around the coiling twenty times and restarted the process. The only time the technique wasn't a pattern is when I created the handle, in which I wrapped string around the coil without threading the needle until I reached the other side of the bowl. However when I created the ceramic bowl There wasn't much of a pattern, in how it was created. The only patterns were when I did the same type of pattern across and making the little coils. On the other hand, both of the bowls gave me a choice or choices. For the paper coil bowl, I had a choice on whether I wanted big paper coiling or thin paper coiling and also which colored string I should use. For the ceramic coil bowl I could've used red or white clay and which patterns I should use.

The most fun part that I liked about the Coil Techniques Reflection was that I was doing the inside of it a kaleidoscope color. It was fun for the sprinkled colors in it. And those are the tiny colors that are in a kaleidoscope. The kaleidoscope was white but the colored sprinkles were red, green, yellow and blue. But they were not multicolored. When the clay was ironed, the kaleidoscope definitely looked different than it's white color. And that is exactly why kaleidoscope is the fun part for me.

When working on my coil bowl i rolled out my clay and put them into the design i wanted, personally i thought that the clay bowl was easier then the coil bowl because while i was doing the coil, at the begging i didnt tighten it and my bowl was kinda loose

I thoroughly enjoyed creating my paper coil bowl and my ceramic coil bowl. When creating my paper coil bowl, it was difficult to wrap the coil tightly and to make sure that you could not see the paper coiling through the yarn. With the paper coiling, I found that I had to focus more on even, consistent wraps to create a pattern and to have a flow throughout my bowl than in my clay project. With my clay bowl, it was difficult to keep your clay from cracking, to keep the inside of your bowl smooth, and to make sure your bowl was not slanted or lop-sided. We used different materials in both projects, however, I found that I had similar difficulties in both projects. The biggest similarity I experienced was that in both projects, it was difficult to keep my bowl from being lop-sided and to keep my bowl looking even and consistent with a sense of pattern.

Enjoyed creating both of the bowls. They used different techniques, but had a similar base objection. With the coil bowl, correcting your mistakes was harder, and keeping the bowl going up at a steady rate was difficult. With the clay bowls, mistakes were easier to correct, as you just took a modeling tool and smoothed them out. With both of the bowls i found it hard to keep the design consistent, and to keep the bowl from caving in. My biggest problem was with keeping both the bowls from looking uneven or slanted. After a while, you got the hang of it and the work became really fun. Overall, i really enjoyed this project.

I really enjoyed creating my clay coil bowl and my yarn coil bowl. When creating my yarn bowl I really enjoyed how I got to experience the way the yarn is wrapped around the coil and how that works. In my clay bowl I really enjoyed working with clay and using our skills to make coils then shaping and forming them to the way we wanted them to be. I had a hard time keeping my yarn bowl from becoming lop-sided because whenever I added more yarn one side of the bowl would either tip towards the ground or collapse. In my clay bowl I had a really hard time keeping my clay to stand up by itself because it was too wet. Once my whole entire bowl collapsed because of the wetness and my friends helped me remake it and get it to stand up again. In both of the projects we had to use the coil technique in order to allow the structures to stay standing and look good. Overall I really enjoyed both of the projects because they allowed me to have a hands on experience with coiling.

This project was very fun on my part. It taught me how to problem solve, and that its better when your patient with your work. My favorite part must be having a goal, but there were many ways to get to your goal. For example, you had to have three different deigns on the coil/ clay pot, and there were many different deign combinations. I think I liked this the most because this exercised your creativity while also learning about coil techniques. Overall I loved this project! I hope we get to do something like this in 8th grade too!!

I enjoyed making both projects. When I was making the coil bowl i had trouble starting it. It took me a couple times. I restarted a lot because i didn't like the look of it. I also had trouble making it tight so that it would keep place.I didn't have a lot of trouble with adding new string. Over all i like the product of my bowl. With my clay bowl I had a lot of trouble. Every time i would try to make a design it would break. So it took me days just to get part of the designs. other than that and getting your hand practically red i really enjoyed the project. I learned that if you keep trying you will get it done. Both projects i had a lot of fun.

I learned a lot with the coil project. I really liked using yarn and paper coil to make a bowl and lid. I thought it was cool how we had to use a specific rhythm to make sure our bowl didn't fall apart. Since I used the larger paper coil I did twenty wraps and then stitched right under where I had stopped. With the clay bowl the directions were similar but we had to score and slip instead of wrap and stitch. Our clay bowl had to consist of three designs and we had to smooth the inside of the bowl to make sure it didn't fall apart. if there were any holes in the bowl we had to make a "teardrop" to put in the hole so it wouldn't fall apart in the kiln. After we fired it once we glazed the whole bowl and used crystal glaze to make fun colors on the inside of the bowl. We then fired it again and it turned out amazing. I LOVED this project!

When I did the Coiling out of clay and yarn I really enjoyed making it. When I made it with the yarn coil, I used the thicker coil. I had to cut the ends of the coil at a 45 degree angle and I had to wrap the yarn around the coil 20 times then pulled the yarn through the coil underneath. And with the clay coil i had to make a design put it on the coiling score and slip put a layer of clay and another design then i had to let it harden. After that i glazed it and put it in the film when it came out it looked so pretty i really loved this project.

For both the Navajo Coil Bowl and the ceramic coil bowl, coiling techniques, functionality, and and design balance were used. However, the ceramic coil bowl required the use of clay rolled into coils and smoothed on the back (and eventually fired and glazed and fired again), and the Navajo coil bowl was made using a paper coil of about 3 armspands and wrapping it in yarn 20 times, and then making a stitch to secure the form before doing 20 wraps again.
