By Madison Koras

The main problem people have with today's society is phones. Within a month, most people today spend over 70 hours on their phone. But, phones are also used to get to one location to another. In this case, phones can be used to save lives. Rather than calling someone for an emergency, it can help people physically and mentally.

More people are using their phones to communicate with other people across the world, to get work done from home, and viewing information. Mobile phones endure safety and can help with almost all emergencies. Surprisingly phones can reduce anxiety and stress. Why? People can play games to relax them or by simply listening to music.

28 year old Jamison Hill has a chronic fatigue syndrome, "Myalgic Encephalomyelitis" this makes it hard for Jamison to speak, eat, drink, or do daily activities. Jamison uses his phone to communicate with his caregiver on when he's hungry, thirsty, needs to change, etc. He also uses his phone to communicate with his doctors and nurses for any updates. However, if Jamison is alone, he can not do much with any help. This is where his phone comes to place. Since Jamison can not provide for himself, he has to rely on someone else to help him with his daily routine. His phone alone is the key for him staying alive. (LA times, "I'm not 'additive' to my smartphone. I depend on it to survive.") Jamison Hill quotes "The whole concept of a smartphone addiction, or an unhealthy reliance on any technology, is unfair when applied indiscriminately to the population as a whole". Some people who are not disabled may use their phones as a "portal" to check twitter or traffic. However Jamison uses his phone to "stay alive" and to live his every day life, with just extra help.

When people think of technology, more specifically, smartphones, it is considered "bad", because so many people depend on their phones for little things likes, reading books, playing games, or using the maps. Phones can actually be used for learning new things. (TRFFC MEDIA, positive impacts of smartphones on society by Jesensky John) claims that using smartphones is a better way to communicate with people, getting exposed on global sources, career growth, business development, social responsibility, and personality development. According to Jesensky, social media helps to "improve" interacting, and a positive attitude. Jenensky reasoning to why phones can help with a positive attitude is that "it is people's hands to take the best for them". They can make social media into a positive or negative impact. He also claims that smartphones are without a doubt are better with communication and it also changes society that "runs" on less manual interaction.

Although social media and phones may cause bullying, bullying and is based on negativity, it can also build confidence. A mom of two, claims that her thirteen year old daughter, Amelia and her eight year old son, William, have more confidence from posting "selfies" on Instagram. (Kelly Wallance- CNN "Social Media Isn't All Bad For Kids)." quotes in an interview of how social media impacted Ms. Masio kids in a good way. "I think just as damaging as social media can be, it can help to build self-confidence". Ms Masio says this because her kids receive nice comments such as, "beautiful" "gorgeous" "stunning" and "you're so pretty". CNN also quotes that social media has made friendships last long and can help their friendship while only some are affected by it. ''more than half (52%) of teens said social media has made them better versus just 4% who said it has negatively affected those relationships." Another quote found on CNN from a student claims that "For every heartbreaking case of cyberbullying, there are many stories of teens using social media for good," meaning that people can use social media to help start a fundraiser, spread awareness of an illness, or even to help look for a missing person or animal.

Some final reasons why phones are more important in our daily lives is that they can keep usinformed, entrainment, constant contact with friends and family, daily utilities, can become more organized, and ensures safety. (Sehba, Important India, "Importance of Mobile Phones In Our Daily Life) further explains why the six reasons of having a phone is important. While phones are great to keep in contact with family and friends, it can also help other families stay informed with other families and friends during an emergency. " Mobile phones have made communication easier with quick placing of calls and SMS. Mobile phones are of great help at the time of emergencies when we need to call the police, ambulance or other emergency services." While keeping families informed on emergencies, it can also help you watch your diet plans or music. " you can download apps of your choice like news apps, health apps, and music apps, etc. that will entertain and inform you." Phones are also a great way to save time, meaning being able to pay your bills while your not home to getting a ride home. "book a cab with the help of various relevant apps. You can also pay your bills with the help of your phone. Your mobile phone also acts like a compass and navigates you. Such uses of mobile phones are extremely helpful as they help us save our time and money." Phones can help people become more organized by using reminders or a calendar and by using alarms. "mobile phones are equipped with important features like documents, alarm, calendars, memo, stop-watch.." FInally phones are a great way to ensure safety. Because of kids walking either to school or from school, they need a way to contact parents to ensure they are home or got to school safely. " you can talk to your children and confirm that they have reached safely at their friend’s place or other destination. At the time of emergencies or difficult situations, the mobile phone can be used quickly to get help." Phones are a very useful and important device to have in our society.

We as a society should use phones primarily for our personal needs to communicate with others when needed. However, not when driving, but to use them for actual emergencies, for school, for work, or to reduce any kind of stress a person may have.

In conclusion, even though people can spend over 70 hours in a month period on their phones, using phones has many benefits, even if it's helping to improve self esteem, to become organized, any safety reasons, any emergency cases, or for communication.

By Kayla Reyes

Technology is ruining our culture! People are relying too much on their smartphones to do the simplest things for them. Today, children under the age of 7 are getting too attached to smartphones and tablets. Instead of families going out to eat to have a nice meal together, the call up Food Uber's to take their orders and take the food to them. Also they are buying groceries on off of Amazon that are fresh and delivered right to their doors. Our society is more concerned on what's on their instagram feeds. It is time for us to put our phones down and come out of our cyber universes.

How we can face technology messing up our culture is by stepping outside and being active. We need set our devices down and go be social. All we need to do is put the phones away for at least an hour or so and enjoy our day.

Research shows that people see their phones as an "extended mind" said in The Telegraphs news story "Stop relying on your smartphones to think for you, Scientists say."

By Salvador Razo
Social media is a popular right now in society anybody could have access to it. Social media can be used for a lot of good things. Some things are that you will always know what is going on by having a twitter or any type of social media. If a shooting or a robbery were to happen around your city there's always someone out their recording or saying something about what's happening on social media. So being up to date on what is going on in the world today it's always a good thing to be alternative.Other than sharing news and staying in touch with loved ones, social media is good for schooling.I say this because some kids don't like to be in public school and learn with others students. That's why there is online broadcasting where the student can live cam with the teacher from his/her computer and get educated at home. such as, the following depiction creates the perception that Social media has a span of information of events that occur from both the past to most current. Information that can expands societies intellectual thoughts. The information given by social media allowing Society to be engaged on current issues, such as the patient has received the news that his diagnosis is far worse than expected. The doctor signifying going to die in a good way because he posted the guys medical record and now his medical record gunna stay online and be on their forever because when something get posted online it will allways be there.

Social media could be bad for our society for different kinds of reasons. One reason why social media is bad for our society is distractions.Kids now at schools are always on their phones on social media most of the time.Instead of paying attention to the teacher and actually learning at school they just on their phones being distracted and not getting the proper education they should be learning. Its not just in schools,Every day there is a car accident somewhere around the world because dumb people are mostly likely on social media while driving and that's just bad for our society because it won't be safe to be out in the streets anymore with these stupid drivers.Another reason why social media is bad is because their is a lot of cyber bullying and causing kids to hurt them self's or lose self confidence. For example is a kid post a on Instagram and a bully starts saying embarrassing comments about that kid everyone gonna see it because everyone has a social media and everyone will see so this is making it easier for bully's to harass kids that are afraid to bully in person and to hide. Social media has a lot of make up words like the word 'bae" and people use this word a lot and its not even a real word their are other words that are mad up that people use when they talk. And kids mostly likely use this word at schools and making them sound like they don't know how to say babe the proper way.In the photo is says "why isn't social media solving our problems" what's is trying to say is that social media isn't solvin our promblems because it's actually making our society different everywhere u see you'll see someone one there phones nothing will be the same like it use to. social media will never solve are problems we have in this world it's making our problems worse.
