         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many Colonists diets consisted of lots of corn. The Indians traded with the colonists and taught them how to grow and cook crops. Many different meals were made from corn such as mush, cake, and stews.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The colonists worked really hard to keep food from spoiling without using any sort of refrigeration. The meat had to be either salted, pickled, or smoke so it wouldn't rot.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fruit was also a very major food.   Apple trees grew in the Middle Colonies and in New England.         Many fruit pies were made throughout the year. When fruit was not fresh they began to dry it so that it could be saved. Apples were an evening meal for many children. <br>During the warmer seasons, children would pick many sorts of berries in the Middle Colonies while in the Southern Colonies they were loaded with Peaches. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>They learned to be thankful for native pumpkins, beans, squash, peas and sweet potatoes. They also planted root vegetables like parsnips, turnips, carrots, and onions, even though most of the colonists thought that vegetables were unhealthy when eaten raw.     Usually in the English tradition, they cooked the vegetables into mushy stews seasons with herbs and meat.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Each day, mostly bowls of stew were served at the main meal. <br>The main meal at this time was lunch served between noon and three. For breakfast and dinner colonists ate mostly some form of corn mush sweetened with various things such as honey, milk, fruit, and more.</div>]]></description>
