How to take notes in class!

In this video, I learned about 5 different note-taking systems, the Outline Method, Cornell method, Mind Map Method, Flow Method, and the Write it on the Slides Method. Firstly, the Outline Method is a note taking system that’s based on bullet points and hierarchy, creating a top level bullet points of all of the main points and lower level bullet points to fill out all the details. Secondly, the Cornell Method is when divide your paper into three distinct sections. On the top of your paper there will be two different columns, the left one being the cue column and the right one being the note taking column and underneath those two columns there is another box for the summary. Thirdly, the Mind Map Method is basically taking a blank piece of paper, draw a circle in the middle of it and add the main topic and then branch off little trees with adding sub topics. Next, the Flow Method is writing down all the information on a piece of paper, except instead of recording it into a bulleted list, organize it spatially with arrows connecting ideas. Lastly, the Write it on the Slide Method is basically just writing on the notes portion of a slideshow. I did like this video because it showed me a lot of ways I can do my notes.

Paper vs. Computer!

I this video I learned about the pros and cons of both paper and computer note-taking. When taking notes on a computer it is a lot faster, easily go back and add things to already written notes, and can sync things to different devices by it being accessible. On the other hand, when you take your notes on paper, you have a lot more flexibility including, drawing arrows, making symbols a lot easier, and it helps to learn the material better. Thomas Frank thinks that paper note-taking is way better than computer note-taking. Another thing that I learned was that a study found that students who take their notes on a computer tend to write an average of 310 words per lecture but students who wrote on paper, took notes at an average of 173 words.

The study also found that students who took their notes on paper were more readily able to recall what they had learned about a half an hour after the lecture rather than those who did them on computer. Overall, after the video, I still think that taking notes on a piece of paper is way more beneficial than on a computer because I think it makes me remember and understand the material more.

8 Habits of Successful Students!

In this video, I learned the 8 Habits that successful students use to be organized and prepared for the day. These 8 Habits include thinking ahead, moving towards adulthood, solution finding, start to actively make relationships, learning outside of class, ears to the ground, staying physically and mentally fit, and try things even if you think you are not fully ready. The one habit, that I really liked and will do it now was thinking ahead because I always look at what I need right at the moment rather than for the future. Some habits from this list that I already do on a daily basis is actively building relationships, learning outside of class, and solution finding. In the video, it explains what solution finders are, and I think I am one of them. The reason why I think this is because they are kind of people,

that when faced with a tough problem, that doesn't have an immediately apparent solution, they are willing to push through and figure out how to solve it. I am totally like that because once one problem is on my mind I feel a need to fix it and figure out a solution quickly and efficiently.

The reason why I choose this article is because it showed me how to take even better notes in class and why they matter. This article also showed me how to determine what is important enough to write down because I do have a tendency to write everything down "just in case" but usually I do not need them. This article connected to both the overall topic and the video because it is about organizing and improving note-taking skills.
