In the song, "I Hope You Dance," by Lee Ann Womack, a sense of encouragement and hope overwhelms the audience. Womack describes the importance of life and the opportunities it offers. An individual can either choose to sit out or to take action in their life. She explains that the hardest paths "never settle for the path of least resistance," (Womack 12) are the most worth taking. She reveals an empihany at the end of the song allowing the audience to understand one should take action and alter their lives in order to succeed and reach happiness. One should also maintain faith in God to show good things actually exist in the world even if they seem impossible and unattainable.

The song directly relates to the novel, The Dubliners, by James Joyce.

The song “Purpose” by Justin Bieber, is a quiet piano ballad where Justin sings about his relationship with God—his newfound purpose in life—and sends a message of appreciation to his audience. After years of personal struggles, Justin’s found a new source of strength in his Christian faith, which he shares through the lyrics. The epiphany Bieber explicitly addresses is that it’s better to move on and work on being a better person rather than being stuck upon everything in the past. Bieber’s rejuvenated faith in God has given him, "inner peace… a spirit at ease," (Bieber 16) a new perspective on his life and actions. He knows that when he’s down, all he has to do is look up to God. Justin also understands that he has a purpose in life and should not waste it nor dwell in the past. Despite the scrutinizing effects of the media, Justin is able to live his life with a new meaning and a new purpose.
Justin Bieber's song "Purpose" directly relates to the main character Gabriel Conroy in the story, "The Dead." Gabriel is filled with defeat as he realizes his wife Gretta is in love with another man. Through much sorrow and hopelessness, he realizes that dying with a purpose, "better to pass bold into that other world in the full glory of some passion than fade and wither dismally with age," (34) is much greater than dying without one. He realizes he only has himself and his religion within the world he lives in and he applies this. Just like Justin, Gabriel understands that he
