The causes of the stock market crash and the Great Depression were the stock market boom, buying on the margin and signs of trouble. In the 1920's the stock market became very common among ordinary people who wanted to become rich from other companies. Since some people couldn't afford to buy stocks, they decided to borrow money, as known as buying on the margin, hoping stocks would rise. In the late 1920's, the stock market showed many warnings before it had hit destruction and banks closed.

Hoover responded to the stock market crash by waiting it out, he responded to the Bonus Army by sending his troops, and many Americans felt angry about his presidency. Hoover didn't want the the government to interfere with the economy. He thought the economy would gradually fix itself. Veterans were in the same situations other people even though they were promised money so they marched outside the capitol so some soldiers died. Americans were angry because they had no money and they thought he would help, but he did nothing.

Roosevelt took steps to provide relief and reform during the Great Depression by New Deal Programs, FDIC, and SSA. When Roosevelt came into office, he tried to help the society by making many relief and reform programs during the 1930's. The FDIC was to insure bank deposits in case of bank failure. It was a reform program because it didn't work right away but it worked over time. The SSA was created to combat widespread poverty among senior citizens and disabled. This was a relief program because it worked right away.
