It is helpful during workshops to track if students are focusing on their work in class. I can close extraneous websites that are opened. It’s also useful to see if students are stuck.

It really helped me with NWEA and state testing. I could see them go into conferences and/or testing sites so I knew who had started testing without relying on the attendance sheet.

I used it in my workshop to check student’s progress on assignments (to see if everyone is done & ready to move on). I messaged students on there to give small reminders without disrupting the class (please take your hat off).

I’ve used it to check in on my students with strict schedule SSP/SSTs in place to see that they’re working before I take the measures of contacting them/parents.

I can also use it to check if anyone seems to be stuck and offer help.

Unfortunately, I’ve also seen a student put a prompt into chat GPT, ask it to make the response more human, then copy it into an assignment & submit it.

I want to see their thinking as they write. Where they start, what they change on their own, etc. kind of making their process more visible to me with the hope that I can intervene in the moment and provide feedback. I imagine it as reciprocal modeling and collaboration…or like virtual dialogic discussion.
