Producers (Plants): These are the foundation, converting sunlight into energy through photosynthesis. You'd need a variety of plants to support herbivores and produce oxygen, Consumers (Herbivores, Carnivores, and Omnivores): Herbivores eat the plants, carnivores eat the herbivores, and omnivores can eat both. Having a diverse range ensures that energy flows through the ecosystem, Decomposers (Fungi and Bacteria): These break down dead material, recycling nutrients back into the soil, supporting plant growth.

The number of each would depend on the size of your ecosystem, but a basic principle is: for every carnivore, you need roughly ten herbivores and a lot of plants to maintain balance.

Then, you'd want herbivores, like deer or rabbits, to munch on those plants. You can't forget carnivores, like foxes or hawks, to help control the herbivore numbers. And finally, decomposers like fungi and earthworms are super important to break down dead stuff and keep the soil healthy. The exact number of each type would depend on how big your ecosystem is, but balance is key!

For a well working and self sustaining ecosystem, you need things like plants, and animals. You need things to consume plant matter to stop it from spreading too much, something to eat the animals that eat plant matter to stop them from eatting all the plant matter and so on! You also need things to eat and clean up waste. All these things are what help sustain a healthy ecosystem.

P.S we have had a mantis before, we found her when it was winter and took her in.

Grass, Ants or other insects, herbivores like Deer, rabbits, or even cows. with carnivores you'd probably want something like wolves, coyotes, bobcats, and with bacteria/decomposers you could provide well by just adding fungi or vultures to the environment! but the big thing is to remember that each animal has it's own role to play in it's environment and the way it lives, balance is necessary.

PP

The organisms I'd need to create a sustaining ecosystem would be a balance of producers (plants) for the production of energy and oxygen, consumers (anything that needs to consume in order to live is considered a consumer, but mainly: carnivores who eat meat, herbivores who eat plants, and omnivores who eat both) for maintaining the population, and decomposers (bacteria, fungi, and animals like bugs and worms) for breaking down dead/decaying material. The amount needed of these organisms depends on the size of the ecosystem which they're in, but herbivores should outnumber both carnivores and omnivores (carnivores should outnumber omnivores) because carnivores rely on herbivores as their primary food source. Ecosystems also need oxygen, energy, sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.
