One of the communicative challenges I faced was enrolling for my preferred course at college. Enrolling and having to communicate with new people, can always be a personal test to see how far you can carry a conversation with different people. At my interview/enrolment, I spoke to Katie (a teacher at Honeywell college) and Lindsey (my team leader) and we discussed my GCSE grades and the preferred path I would want to start my journey on. To expand, we explored whether I would enjoy a more coursework based college life or more exam filled. I felt very comfortable during my enrolment and was able to ask questions about what my preferred course would be able to get me further on in life. However, I wish I pursued my knowledge and depth of the course and asked further questions about the content of the course itself.

At my job induction, I had to communicate with multiple people across many different floors as this took place in a workhouse. I made sure to communicate with various people who had different job roles throughout the warehouse in order to ensure my safety by understanding where certain people would be at certain times throughout my stay there. I think I did very well at listening to the rules I was being told and making sure to ask if I was unsure if I could be in a specific area. Something I think I could improve on, is paying more attention to the manual labour element of the induction in order to ensure you don’t injure yourself during any physical activity.

When I signed up for a new gym I was not familiar with, I had to communicate with staff there and citizens occupying the gym in order to get help to be able to work new equipment safely. Instead of struggling or avoiding a piece of equipment because I didn’t understand how to work it, I made sure to stand with a piece of staff whilst they demonstrated how to work the machine properly. I think I did very well at communicating as I made sure to ensure my safety at all times and always being polite to staff when explaining to me how to work something. If I were to improve something, it would be to only engage with the staff and avoid asking other people at the gym if possible as they might not know the safest way to use the equipment.
