John was faced with one of the most challenging experiences, the disorders of the mind aren't shown like a broken leg or arm. its buried deep within and no one else is going to be able to say they know what's going. The huge amount of strength John would of had to of summund up is beyond me the deep loneliness and fear he would of experienced is remarkable, I don't know if I could think of a harder thing to walk through as it not only put him through trauma in the hospital but he had to see his personal life be torn in front of him by his own hand yet unable to stop the destruction.

throughout the film we see John Nash suffer from internal conflict, which must of been difficult for him, as at the start of the film we see the confidence that John has. he is highly competitive and does not like to lose. in a way johns illness can be seen as him losing in some part of is life, so he begins an endless internal conflict with the uncontrollable factors that limit him (schizophrenia). he tries to compete with it by stopping his medication however for a long time this didn't work for him a he had not accepted his illness to be real. when he finally did this we see a switch in johns ability to cope with his hallucinations and the conflict with his illness lessens as he becomes more accepting of it.

For Example; no one realized that john was having hallucinations until much later into his life with the help of an expert. Whereas external struggle, such as john finding a topic for his research paper, is much easier for others to realize there's a problem.

The delusions from Maycee, William and Charles made him feel less lonely and William gave him purpose, what he needed, even if he was alone he had someone, something to hold onto.

From the beginning of the film we are viewing the events from Nashs perspective. This is what lead us to believe his delusions were in fact real, we believed in them as much as John did. However, once we saw circumstances from the perspective of Alicia, like with the back shed and his office, we could see the true reality of the situation. Much of the film is about the perspective from which we see and even though we had been blatantly told that Nash was mentally ill, there was still doubt within the audience at various moments because we had seen everything from his perspective. Even John himself was able to see past his own delusions because he saw himself from his wifes point of view

At the beginning of the film John Nash is motivated by his desire to be remembered and to leave a legacy. His delusions completely change the person that he is as he is essentially living in his own world, one that is not real. Alicia barely knows who he is as his schizophrenia gets worse over time. By the end of the film he had made the active choice not to engage with his delusions anymore. The turning point in his attitude was when he almost killed his son. The threat of losing his family, especially Alicia forced him to acknowledge his illness. Following that point he came to terms with, and accepted that some of the things that he sees are not real. As we hear from him at the end of the movie as he delivers his Nobel Prize speech, his motivations have evolved from being remembered, to love. He has evolved from who he was as a young man and acknowledges that the reason he is alive is Ala and his love for her is his motivation now.
