Beneatha is a bubbly, interesting, unique young girl. She shows her distinct uniqueness on page 505. “ ‘I don’t flit! I--I experiment with different forms of expression--’ ” (Hansberry 505). Beneatha is also very determined, no matter what the odds are or what everybody says about it, as shown on page 506. “ ‘Oh, I probably will...but first I’m going to be a doctor, and George, for one, still thinks that's pretty funny. I couldn't be bothered with that. I am going to be a doctor and everybody around here better understand that!’ ” (Hansberry 506).

Beneatha proudly embraces her Nigerian background, unlike the rest of her family and friends, as depicted on page 524. “(emerging grandly from the doorway so that we can see her thoroughly robed in the costume Asagai brought): ‘You are looking at what a well-dressed Nigerian woman wears--’ ” (Hansberry 524).

One admirable psychological trait that stands out is her independence, as shown on page 506 when she is discussing whether or not she wants to get married. “ ‘Get over it? What are you talking about, Ruth? Listen, I’m going to be a doctor. I’m not worried about who I’m going to marry yet--if I ever get married.’ ” (Hansberry 506). She also asserts her independence on page 538 when she is with George Murchison. “(He tries to kiss her. She moves away.) ‘Look, we’ve had a nice evening; let’s not spoil it, huh?’...” (Hansberry 538).

One emotional trait that stands out about Beneatha is her openness to try new things, as shown through a conversation between her, Mama, and Ruth on page 504. “Mama: ‘Lord, child, don’t you know what to get tired of this now--like you got tired of that little do with yourself. How long it going to be before you play-acting group you joined last year?’ (looking at Ruth) ‘And what was it the year before that?’ Ruth: ‘The horseback-riding club for which she bought that fifty-five-dollar riding habit that’s been hanging in the closet forever since!’ ” (Hansberry 504).

When I think of Beneatha, I think of the color yellow, because she is so vibrant and happy for the majority of the time, as shown on page 524 when she happily starts to embrace her inner self. “(Ruth follows her with her eye as she goes to the phonograph and puts on a record and turns and waits ceremoniously for the music to come up. Then, with a shout--) ‘OCOMOGOSIAY!’ ” (Hansberry 524). She also shows this vibrancy again later on page 524 when she energetically started dancing. “The music comes up, a lovely Nigerian melody. Beneatha listens, enraptured, her eyes far away--'back to the past.' She begins to dance, Ruth is dumbfounded.” (Hansberry 524). link
