Brian Robeson survived in the Canadian wilderness when his plane crashed and he had nobody, so he had to be SELF RELIANT!!! Brian was mentally strong and extremely resourceful. “the most important rule of survival, which was that feeling sorry for yourself didn’t work.” and "He was out of food, but he could look tomorrow and he could build a signal fire tomorrow and get more wood tomorrow . . ."

"In the attempt his genius deserts him;
no muse befriends; no invention, no hope. Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string." Song Lyrics: "'Cause I got me for life,
Oh I don't need a hand to hold"

The lyrics from Me, Myself, and I parallels with the essay because of the exclamation of only having yourself. Me, Myself, and I's lyrics shows that they only need themselves to succeed and they cannot be betrayed if alone. Compared to the essay, the essay is saying that one will leave him and not to befriend anyone and only trust yourself.

Chris was and adventurer who lost his life in the wildneress of Alaska. Chris was intelligent, and extremly self reliant. He belived that life is best live alone, in the wilderness. Chris embodies the principles of Emersons essay because of his views on life. The essays principle is that nothing can truly bring you peace except for yourself, and Chris felt this way. He despised or did not listen to advice give to him by others, and did things his own way, where he eventually found his peace in the nature of Alaska.
