I want to dwell a little upon a notion “tolerance”. To my mind, tolerance must be an essential feature of the character of each person. It helps us to cope and overcome differences. Tolerance helps people to be restrained and forbearing to those who have the different political and religious views or belong to different races,nationalities and standards of living.

We can show our tolerance in many ways. For instance, some person can not agree with others on some questions, but at that time he or she can respect opinion and treat them with dignity. In this case the person expresses their own tolerance.

To great regret, most of us are not tolerant. If we were at least a little more tolerant, it would be easier to to live in this world without wars and conflicts.

     Why does intolerance exist in our world? The problem is that we often hear about acts of intolerance such as the protest actions against other people, their points of view, thoughts, and ideals.

      What is more, in our day-to-day routine life we often notice that people speak in a disrespectful manner against events or ideas they do not support. 

      In addition, nowadays many people suffer from discrimination that originated from intolerance only because of an ‘inappropriate’ gender, age, skin colour, religion, ethnicity or political view. 

      Then, the numerous acts of intolerance provide the main front-page news stories. For instance, recent demonstrations against immigrants from the former USSR countries, which took place in Moscow, have arisen a lot of comments. 

       To sum up, I would like to mention that celebration of International Day of Tolerance on Novermber, 16 is very important for the whole mankind. Declared by UNESCO in 1995, this holiday continues to generate public awareness of the dangers of intolerance.

      In my opinion, each of us should start educating tolerance in the own character and should try to treat other people equally in spite of their ethnical, cultural or other differences.

      There are many people on our planet. All of them are very different. Many people live in cities, others live in small villages. Every person has his own appearance. People differ in languages, they have their own thoughts and opinions.

       I think we should respect each other, we should be tolerant towards other thoughts. We should live in peace. The fact is that modern world is short of toleration. That is why there are military conflicts and even wars. 

     I am sure that only love and good relationship will save the world, only they will make our life happy and peaceful.  

       Поняття “толерантність” включає в себе дуже багато. Це, перш за все, здатність знаходити спільну мов з іншими, незалежно від кольору шкіри та волося, раси чи народності. Толерантність має існувати у кожному куточку земної кулі. Але, щоб толерантність мала достатньо високий рівень, кожна людина повинна мати такі риси як розуміння, вихованність, терпіння, стриманність….

      Нажаль, у сучасному світі проблема толерантності  знаходиться у досить плачевному стані. Так, за даними соціологічних досліджень люди старшого покоління мають нижчий рівень толерантності, ніж молодь.Тому спроби прищеплювати толерантність повинні бути поширені на всі вікові групи й розповсюджуватись не тільки у школі, а й вдома, на роботі й, навіть, при проведенні дозвілля.

      Досить часто коріння нетерпимості ростуть з неосвіченності та страху: страху перед невідомим, іншими культурами, націями, релігіями.

      Нетерпимість також має багато спільного з гіпертрофованим відчуттям власної цінності та зарозумілості: особистої,національної, релігійної.

       Демократія в Україні ще занадто молода, щоб люди відчули себе настільки вільними, щоб в повній мірі розвивати свій потенціал.

        Толерантність - це саме те, чого не вистачає зараз деяким людям та націям: терпіння, терпимості, розуміння, дружнього відношення.

      Думається, що для виховання толерантності в нашому суспільстві потрібно акцентувати увагу на філософії толерантності й впроваджувати її в наше життя всіми засобами, допомогаючи людям перейнятися розумінням цього поняття й бажанням жити у відповідності до нього.

Важливо з дитинства додержуватись устновлених форм поведінки без примусу та нагадування. Багато років тому відомий англійський філософ Дж.Локк (1630-1704), говорячи про почуття міри “золотої середини”, стверджував, що з дитинства в погано вихованої людини сміливість набуває форму грубості, вченість обертається дрібязковим педантизмом, добродушність - улестливістю.

Вихованність й справді відчиняє двері та сердця, вона допомагає людині не бути  надто балакучою, але й не мовчати  увесь вечір у товаристві. Вона підкаже, як не бути занадто лагідним, або черствим та сухим у спілкуванні з близькими людьми, навчить не турбувати інших через дрібниці, а ще не скупитися на подяку.

Приймаючи чиїсь послуги або допомогу, вихована людина платить ввічливістю і любязністю, а в разі потреби - й піклуванням.  Кажуть, що добре виховану людину можна впізнати по тому, як вона слухає. Вміння вислухати співрозмовника, не перебиваючи його, до кінця, навіть якщо ви не згодні з ним, - це одна з основних ознак тактовності.

Доречі, слово такт походить з латинської, у якій воно має два значення: «дотик» і «почуття».

Тактовність починається з вміння поводитись з кожним залежно від його душевного стану; вміння відчути людину, ніби доторкнутись до неї душею.                                                          Невміння спілкуватися з оточуючими, берегти, поважати один одного, призводить до конфліктів, розчарувань, втрати бажання вчитися і працювати, досягати успіхів.

Вихована людина, як правило, тактовна, вона намагається попередити ситуації, які створюють незручності.

Якщо правила поводження в конкретній ситуації можна вивчити, то такт вимагає вміння поставити себе на місце іншого.

Вихована, тактовна людина поводиться скромно та привітно. Вона не пихата і не байдужа, не виявляє неприязнь до інших. Тому учимось бути вихованими, тактовними та толерантними!

     Until now scientists have not reached a consensus on the source of the term "tolerance" in the world culture. Some historians  link its appearance with the signing of the Edict of Nantes, where Protestants and Catholics had found a compromise between their confessions. That event was preceded by one of the bloodiest nights in the world history - a Varfolomejevska night. 

     Today the problem of  tolerance continues be acute  to mankind and is crying of its existence. But few people are paying attention on it.

      The life of any society, as well as  the life of any individual, is based on the impact of ideas, opinions, and theories. There were a lot of them during the human’s history. They mastered the minds of people for a longer or shorter period. Some of them had called for the barricades, led to wars, became the basis for the establishment of "an enemy image" of another people. 

     But with the development of a society people have come to understanding that the Earth is not very large. It is our common home, where all peoples are neighbors. For  the successful development of the humanity, we must find a  common ground. In the vast sea of ​​different cultures, religions, thoughts, and ideas, only tolerance may become a lifebuoy for our humanity.
