The bodily response this stage elicits is known as the "fight- or-flight" response. It allows the body to prepare for "flight" or a "fight". There are many triggers ranging from social gatherings to an attacker and anything in between. If a person makes it trough this stage, then the body is returned to its original state.

There are sometimes stressors, like extreme cold, that is incompatible with life and thus may cause death. If it is possible to survive the stressor, then one moves into the Resistance Stage. This stage is where the body tries to adapt to the existing stressor to return to homeostasis.

The body has tried to acclimate for so long it burns out and all resources are depleted.
